The "You know you're a tomato if..."Contest

Wow. The Three Tomatoes have not been this excited about a contest since we won the spelling bee in third grade, the most books read in 6^th grade, and the dance contest in our senior year of high school. (We won for the best "Monkey and Swim"). We had so much fun reading your entries. And believe you me, picking the semi-finalists was tough duty. We had to keep filling those wine glasses until we came to a consensus. And as you now know, The Three Tomatoes love our wine so consensus came slowly.

And the finalists are...

So....are you ready? Here are the three finalists as chosen by The Three Tomatoes' judging committee (which would be of course, The Three Tomatoes.)

You know you're a tomato if...smoking in the school bathroom was being wild and crazy. Submitted by Sandra R. of Tarrytown, New York. (Editor's Note: Of course if you were smoking in the Boy's room you were a bad girl.)

You know you're a tomato if... the first time you wore a two-piece bathing suit, you were about twelve, took about 15 minutes to get the nerve to leave the swimming pool changing room, wrapped yourself in a huge towel, ran to the edge of the swimming pool, unwrapped the towel, immediately dove into the water, flapped about for a few seconds, got out; immediately wrapped yourself back in the towel, and returned to the dressing room and changed back into the one-piece. Submitted by Grace H. of New York City (Editor's note: These days, we change from our one-piece into our full body cover up.)

You know you're a tomato if... you didn't get a lava lamp the second time around because it would ruin the decor, whereas in college, wow, man, it was the decor. Submitted by Barbie N. of Burnt Store Marina, Florida

But now the winner is up to you. The finalists are posted on the poll at the home page of our web site http://www.thethreetomatoes.com/ where you can vote -- early, late and often. We will accept votes up to midnight of April 28. (We're never up that late, but if you are, feel free to vote.) The winner will receive a measly $100 American Express gift certificate, so don't expect the finalists to pay you to vote for them. We're not talking the power ball lottery here.

You know you're a tomato if.... you used to think 'natural' meant little or no makeup and not shaving your legs. Submitted by Donna D. of New York City

You know you're a tomato if... you can remember walking home from school for lunch and your stay-at-home mom was waiting there to greet and feed you, making sure you completed lunch and got back to school before the tardy bell was rung. Submitted by Terry H.

You know you're a tomato if... you run into an old friend who looks terrific and you immediately look for the telltale signs that she's had "work" done. Submitted by Donna F. of New York City

You know you're are a tomato if... you always had to first find a skate key if you wanted to roller skate. Submitted by Mary M., of Long Island and also submitted by Joan T. of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. ( It's that great minds thing.)

You know you're a tomato if... you avidly collected "45 rpm" records with the big hole in the middle, loved songs like Johnny Angel or Going to the Chapel cuz I'm Going to Get Married; got, as your first present from a boyfriend, one of these three 45s: When Fools Rush In (where Wise men fear to go), The Twelve of Never, or Moon River. You know you're an Italian tomato if....you grew up your whole life never being able to use the bathroom guest towels. Submitted by Sandra P. of Ludlow, Vermont

You know you're a tomato if... you remember helping your Mom paste S&H green stamps into a little book, all in neat rows. Submitted by a Three Tomato Husband, New York City
