New Year, New Lead Team
The Illinois Region has two Lead teams. One team consists of 15 students from six high schools across
Chicagoland - extraordinary, fun and intelligent young men and women that live in the city's southside, northside and westside communities. This
summer, the Lead Team participated in community service, global education, team building and professional development activities. Two activities
in particular made a lasting impact on the students while they in turn worked to improve their communities. Read more.

One Village, Many Different Trek Experiences
The Trek Team from Illinois traveled to a small village in Nicaragua this summer to help build a
school with the community. While each student had a different experience, they all came away with a similar appreciation for finding happiness
through
the people around them, not material things. Ryan (left in photo), from Clemente High School, bonded with his host dad over a shared love
of
baseball. Click here to read his Trek
Talk! essay about bridging a cultural gap through baseball. Juridia, from Uplift Community High School, watched for differences in gender roles in
the village. Click

B.E.S.T. Students Volunteer with Seniors
The students in the Building with Books program at the Bowen Environmental Studies Team (B.E.S.T.)
High School maintained their success for a second school year, volunteering regularly at a organization called Villa Guadalupe Senior Services.
The students volunteered on a bi-monthly basis between February and May. Villa Guadalupe is a senior residential facility located in the heart of the
South Chicago community, also home of the B.E.S.T. High School campus. Read
