Really-- what are you
worrrying about?
I'm sure something came to
mind when you saw
that question!
When you first wake up, do you lie in bed and
worry about:
unpaid bills, an upcoming job review, your
kids, your weight, your health, rising gas prices, or maybe ALL of the above?
“I drive way too fast to worry about my cholesterol.” Steven Wright
Today was the first time in a loooooong time
that I awoke with NO worries because yesterday we sold a house we needed to sell to buy our vacation/retirement/rental house in the Dominican
Republic- yippee!
I had forgotten what a great feeling it is to
wake-up worry-free and I want you to feel the same!
So, here are five steps to help you STOP worrying and
STAY in The Positive Zone®:
Step 1. Make two
columns:
*** Worries I can do SOMETHING about:
1.
Credit card debt
2.
My weight
3.
***
Worries I can do NOTHING about:
1. The weather
2.
My boss’ bad moods
3.
Step 2. List every worry/problem you can think of in the appropriate
column.
Step 3.
Accept the problems you can do NOTHING about.
Step 4.
Look for solutions for the ones you can.
"The Serenity Prayer"
God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I
cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
So, where do you look for
solutions? Always start with the Internet:
>> If you’re worried about credit card
debt, visit DaveRamsey.com for helpful in-your-face advice and free budget worksheets. (I used them to figure out if we could afford to buy our
vacation house.)
>> If you’re worried about your weight,
visit weightwatchers.com. or another support group
>> If you're worried about the success of your next meeting, just click here
>>Google the words of ANY thing you're worried
about and you're bound to find a helpful website or forum!
.
What’s important is to take some
kind of ACTION because:
“Fear stops action. Action stops fear.” Margaret Bourke-White
Step 5.
Don’t let a small concern snowball into a HUGE WORRY
If, after talking to a potential client,
I’m not hired for the job, I may worry, “They probably didn’t like my website/video/brochure/voice on the phone….”
And If I don’t STOP that thought in its
track, it grows larger (“They obviously found someone MUCH better than me!)” and LARGER (“I’ll never work AGAIN!”)
Sound familiar?
Keep normal concerns in perspective and
remember:
“Worry is like
a rocking chair: it gives you something to do, but doesn’t get you anywhere!”
And, this great advice from singer Bobbie
McFerron:
“In your life will be some trouble,
But when you worry, you make it double;
Don't worry, be happy!”
Until next
month……I wish you worry-free summer days in The Positive Zone®!
