Election Details and Voting Schedules
Today is the deadline for filing a qualifying petition with the
Williamson County Election Commission to be placed on the ballot as a
candidate for either mayor or alderman at-large for the City of
Franklin election in October. A candidate can file a withdrawal request
by next Thursday, July 26. By day's end we will finally know who has
qualified for candidacy for local office, but the slate won't be
official until July 26 - someone just might have a change of heart.
Election day is Tuesday, October 23, with early voting at the
Williamson County Administrative Complex beginning Wednesday, October
3, and ending on Thursday, October 18. Hours for early voting are from
8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday, and from 8:00am to noon on
Saturday.
Streaming Video on City Website
Cable Channel 10 and Franklin's IT department are now providing
streaming videos of the most recent meetings of the Board of Mayor and
Aldermen and the Franklin Municipal Planning Commission. This will
allow anyone to view the meetings at a time that's most convenient. In
order to view and listen to the streaming videos, you must have a sound
card, Windows Media Player, and access to the internet. Just go to
franklin-gov.com and catch everything you missed. Click on Cable
Channel 10 from the homepage (under Online Services). This will access
the Cable Channel 10 schedule. In the schedule, wherever you see a
meeting in red, simply click on it to view that meeting. My complements
to Cable Channel 10 and our IT department for providing this much
requested and needed service!
Residential Permits Decrease
The Building and Codes Department has reported that the city issued 52
single family/town home residential permits and seven new commercial
permits during the month of June. For the 2007 calendar year, this
brings the total to 351 residential permits, a 22% reduction from the
same period last year when we issued permits for 452 residential units.
In spite of this downward trend, total construction value exceeds that
of a year ago. Higher land and construction costs and larger homes keep
the value climbing.
BOMA Meets with MTEMC Board 7/23
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen will meet with the Board of Middle
Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation on Monday, July 23, at 4:00pm
at the Cool Springs Conference Center. The primary purpose of this
meeting, at least from the City's perspective, is to formulate and
execute a franchise agreement. MTEMC has been unwilling to sign a new
franchise agreement since the previous one expired in 1996.
Zoning Ordinance Meeting 7/24
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen will meet in special session on
Tuesday, July 24, at 6:30pm to review the final changes of the proposed
Zoning Ordinance. Planning Director Jaime Groce will facilitate
discussion of all revisions that have been proposed by the board during
our months of meetings. Hopefully at the conclusion of this discussion,
the ordinance can begin the approval process.
