LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph

 

Opening: Friday, June 6, 6-9pm

 

Stories from the Garden is a local documentary project that tells the story of an urban garden started in Charlottesville's 10th and Page neighborhood in 2007. Photography by Ross McDermott and audio storytelling by Jesse Straight highlight five individuals connected with the garden and the neighborhood.

 

The exhibition is supported by the City of Charlottesville, the Charlottesville Community Design Center (CCDC), and Stubblefield Photo Lab and is shown with the Festival of the Photograph, June 12-14.

 

Exhibit located on the downtown mall, at the corner of 5th Street in the courtyard below the new CCDC.

Puppet-Making Extravaganza

Do Something Charlottesville

Mountain Justice Virginia 


Saturday, June 14, 1-5pm

 

Join the local climate change group, Do Something Charlottesville, and Mountain Justice Virginia for an afternoon puppet-making workshop in Charlottesville's Washington Park on June 14.

 

The arts, puppets, and creative materials have been used for political activism throughout the centuries. Participate in this hands-on workshop to create puppets that will be used during a summer of climate change activism in Charlottesville. 

 

The event is free, family-friendly, and open to the public.

Whale photographer Flip Nicklin will describe how our perception of whales has changed, from a commodity to an animal that excites wonder and evokes dreams. Flip's talk will cover his career as a researcher of whales and dolphins. Presented in conjunction with the

Festival of the Photograph.

Tuesday Evening Concert Series


Subscriptions Now Available!

 

The Tuesday Evening Concert Series announces subscription sales for its 2008/09 season, which will include pianist Radu Lupu, the Leipzig String Quartet, Salzburg Chamber Soloists, cellist Daniel Mueller-Schott, and others.

 

The Series will take place from October 2008 - March 2009. Concerts are held in Old Cabell Hall Auditorium at the University of Virginia. For more information, visit www.tecs.org or call 434.244.9505.

Seeking to recover the joys and accessibility of Shakespeare's theater, language, and humanity, the American Shakespeare Center presents Henry V, one of the playwrights most respected English histories. Directed by Giles Block, the Henry V runs at the American Shakespeare Center's Blackfriars Playhouse through June 14. 

 

Dates of performances vary. Tickets range from $20-36.
