"Three Fabulous Babes" -

PVCC Art Gallery hosts "Three Fabulous Babes," a group show of work by Angi Curreri, Silvia Lizama, and Beryl Solla. The three artists met in graduate school in South Florida and have worked together in various ways since then. The show will be exhibited in the PVCC's North Gallery through mid-January.

 

In the South Gallery, Tim Michel, Matt Pamer, and Russell U. Richards show together in "Looks Good on Paper." The show features a variety of works on paper created using diverse printmaking techniques. 

 

Gallery hours: Monday-Thursday 9am-10pm, Friday 9pm-5pm, 1-5pm Saturday.

Meet the Musicians Series
Virginia Discovery Museum

 

Saturday, November 22, 3:00-4:00pm

 

Virginia Discovery Museum presents John Hamlett and Andy Thacker for the final performance in its Meet the Musicians Series. The series has featured a diverse selection of American roots music for older children and adults. It culminates this weekend with a showcase of traditional music and instruments.

 

John Hamlett is a small-shop builder who has been making quality instruments in the hills of Virginia for over 30 years. Andy Thacker is a well established mandolin player whose playing has matured to mastery.

 

The Meet the Musicians Series runs alongside the Virginia Discovery Museum's current exhibition, "New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music."

 

Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students and VDM members. They can be purchased online or at the door.

The University Programs Council presents its annual Artisan's Bazaar in UVA's Newcomb Ballroom next week. Local artisans and artists will be selling their handmade crafts for three full days.

 

Gifts for all occasions and all budgets will be available. Jewelry, pottery, photography, handbags, greeting cards, ornaments, wood pieces, silk screen t-shirts, salsas, jams, orchids, stained glass, and more! Interactive projects and raffle drawings will also be happening throughout the day.

 

The Artisan's Bazaar will be open on Thursday from 12:00-7:00pm, Friday from 10:30am-6:00pm, and Saturday from 9:00am-3:00pm.

Familiar Strangers

Cavalier Films

Familar Strangers, an independent film created and produced locally by Cavalier Films, shows in Charlottesville through this week. 


Filmed in Staunton, Familar Strangers is an off beat, funny, heartfelt story of an American family negotiating the changing relationships between parents and children, especially as those children grow into adulthood.

 

This independent film recently opened in Charlottesville and Fairfax as an expanding, regional release. Its distribution depends on its success regionally, so get out there support local film!

Familiar Strangers, a locally filmed and produced movie, plays in Charlottesville this week.

 

 

 


Joel Rubin, Director of Music Performance for UVA's McIntire Department of Music, will direct a special performance by the Klezmer Ensemble and guest musician Susan Hoffman Watts.

The UVA Klezmer Ensemble under the direction of UVA's Director of Music Performance, Joel Rubin, hosts special guest, trumpeter and vocalist Susan Hoffman Watts.

 

The ensemble will perform a new program of instrumental klezmer music and Yiddish songs, focusing on repertoire of the Hoffmans, Philadelphia's preeminent klezmer family for four generations. Watts, a 2007 NEA National Heritage Fellow, creates in the tradition of the Philadelphia klezmer sound pioneered by the Hoffmans.   


Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. UVA students can use their Arts Dollars to obtain free tickets. They can purchased at the door or through the Cabell Hall Box Office in person or at 434.924.3984 from 12-5pm on Monday through Friday.
