The Book Club Votes are in, Gracie Mansion Tea Update, New Web Sites
you’ll Love, and more
The Three Tomatoes are having one of those
totally insane weeks. You know the kind where everything on your to do list is urgent -- which doesn’t necessarily
mean it’s important, but when you’re in urgent mode it’s impossible to sort that out. We’ve
blown off our exercise routine this week, which we know is really dumb because that’s a great stress reliever, not to mention that
we’ve been stress-eating and mindlessly stuffing food like chocolate chip cookies in our mouths all week too. But just
because we’re stressed, doesn’t mean we’re ignoring you this week, because you dear tomatoes are indeed important.
And we do want to update you on our new book club, our progress with Tea at Gracie Mansion, and tell you about a fabulous new web site for those of us who are
“saging”. Oh, and we almost forgot…the glove mate web site too. And PS, we
can’t wait to meet those of you who are joining us for our Comedy Event tonight.
The Book Club Votes are in
We are thrilled that so many of you are participating in The Three Tomatoes Book
Club which we launched last week. If you missed that announcement, you can go to our Book Club now and see what it’s about.
And now, drum roll, the book you voted on for February is A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. (Read the synopsis.) Hosseini is
the author of Kite Runner which has been on the New York
Times best seller list for something like 103 weeks. So start reading now, and on February 14th we’ll post
our first discussion questions.
And if you’ve read Water for Elephants, you can join in our weekly book club discussions right now. We have posted this week’s questions. And everyone who posted comments last week agrees that this
is a three star book (our highest rating.)
Update on Gracie Mansion
And we have an amazing response from many of you who are interested in joining us
for a Tour and Tea at Gracie
Mansion. As we mentioned last week, Mayor Bloomberg has opened up this beautiful and historic home to the public, and
since our next Mayor may actually want to live there, this opportunity could be rare indeed. We will get back to those of you who
emailed us last week very shortly with potential dates. If you missed this item, you can read all about in last week’s newsletter.
And if you want to join us, please send us a quick email.
Wouldn’t you rather “sage” than
age?
Launched this week, FiftyandFurthermore is a lifestyle website and ezine that celebrates growing older (saging) as a time for
creative and passionate living. To which, we say, hallelujah and pass the martinis. The
site provides a forum for the 50+ crowd to discuss topics like relationships, sexuality, travel, health, “reFIREment”, green living,
mental health, spirituality, and even fashion too. We love the article on stiletto
shoes!
FiftyandFurthermore is the brainchild of dynamo Dr. Doree Lynn, a psychologist, author, and “savvy
sage.” She is a well know speaker on the lecture circuit, and has made numerous media appearances on “Good
Morning America”, MSNBC, CNN, Fox News, and most recently appeared on a TV segment called “My
Generation, produced by AARP, giving her advice on relationships and sex. (And no, you are
never too old!) She recently published her second book, When the Man You Love is
Ill. So if you’d rather
“sage” than age, we know you’re going to love FiftyandFurthermore. Oh, and you’ll also find The Three Tomatoes featured on their home page, since we will be a weekly contributor.
How cool is that?
Looking for a lost glove?
If we had a dollar for every glove we’ve ever lost, we could buy at least one
martini at the Four Seasons. And now there’s a site where you might actually find that missing mate. One Cold Hand was started recently in Pittsburgh as an art project by
Jennifer Gooch, a Carnegie Mellon University art
student. She posts photographs of lost gloves and the location of where they were found at her web site. And some of the lost gloves have actually been reunited with their
mate. And this month, a few of her friends started the New York City version of One Cold Hand
. She’s now working on similar sites for cities around the globe, and is planning a book to showcase her found
gloves. Now how clever is that? Art meets practicality.
Okay, we’re feeling better already, and are thinking about that Three
Tomato-tini toast tonight!
‘til next week,
