Chicago Students Learn Stewardship at Spring Service Project
On April 26, more than 300 high school students from all 21 BwB after-school programs in the region came together for the largest BwB Joint Service
Project ever in Chicago! For this third annual event, they learned about invasive plants and ecological restoration. Through mindful hard work, BwB

Gage Park H.S. Has Exceptional Month of Service in March
BwB members at Gage Park High School contributed a total of 500 hours of service to their community
during the month of March. From volunteering at a women's shelter to refurbishing shoes for people in need to marching in protests for issues they

Uplift High School Students Serve Lunch & More
BwB members from Uplift High School in Chicago spent a day off from school volunteering to serve
lunch at the
local Salvation Army. In just one short hour, students worked quickly to serve more than 175 people! With their service came education,

Trek to Mali: "The Place to Go to Find Yourself"
For one Chicagoland BwB member, his Trek for Knowledge to a small village in
Mali gave
him the chance to live life more simply. Without the distraction of sophisticated
technology, John Cerda, a junior at Walter Payton College Preparatory High School, says, "you learn to really appreciate life and

Chicago Partnership for Hope Breakfast on May 29
Be Counted! at Building with Books' annual Partnership for Hope Breakfast to honor and thank those who
have helped change lives for good in Chicago and around the world. Rufus Williams, Chicago Public Schools Board President, will emcee the morning
event at the Hilton. Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan will be honored by BwB for her unwavering support of programs that
help youth in Illinois reach their potential.
