A artist hard a work in Evelyn Armstrong's Life Darwing Workshop

An artist hard at work in Evelyn Armstrong's Life Drawing course this summer.  ________________________

It was a Great Summer in Wells

For those of you who joined us in Wells for the many workshops, events and exhibitions this summer, thank you for making 2006 such a great success!

With  our Summer School featuring 24 workshops in a great variety of artistic disciplines from Spoken Word Poetry for Youth, to the Wells Artists' Project for Emerging and Professional Visual Artists, the school was a buzz of non-stop creative activity. Of the many highlights from this year, I am especially proud of our Celtic Harp School which celebrated its 20th year in Wells!

The the 3rd Annual ArtsWells Festival Of All Things Art, grew substantially in 2006 with over 500 in attendance and over 100 participating artists, including musical treats such as the internationally acclaimed Maori artist from New Zealand, Mihirangi, the northern interior's favourite dance band, Mamaguroove and veteran man of the blues, Ken Hamm. The festival also featured some exciting visual arts like the International Spirit Apron Project and Bert DeVink's sculpture of four musicians. As usual the One Minute Play Festival was a favourite event at ArtsWells, hosted by the king of "Prizes, Prizes, Prizes," Paul Crawford. Check out some great photos from this year by clicking here. Also please fill out our online ArtsWells participant survey to help us make the festival a success in 2007.

The Island Mountain Arts Public Gallery hosted some amazing exhibitions this summer including works by photographer Sarah Fuller, glass artist Wendy Young, painter Suzanne Bessette and art collector Paul Crawford.

As I look ahead to IMA's 30th Anniversary next year, you can bet that 2007 will be just as exciting with artists, educators, students and spectators alike travelling from across the land to the historic hamlet of Wells, BC to delve into creative pursuits or just sit back and listen to some great music.

Please email me with your snail mail address if you would like to receive the 2007 course and event calendar.

Yours truly,

Julie Fowler, Artistic Director/Curator, mailto:media@imarts.com?subject=Add me to your mailing list
