Cool recommendations from The Three Tomatoes. But first... the not so cool
stuff.
So here we were one recent Saturday morning relaxing after a Pilates workout,
cup of coffee in hand, the Weekend Today show in the
background, when we heard the promo for the upcoming segment "High Tech Gadgets for Boomers." Now The Three Tomatoes love gadgets, so with images of the latest in iPods, GPS devices, satellite radios, digital cameras, Blackberry type devices
and more, we turned up the volume in anticipation of finding out what cool new stuff is out there. What we got was a thirty
something year old who bills herself as a "boomer gerentoligist" being interviewed by the perky 30-something Natalie Morales as she presented the
boomer "high tech gadgets" which included (are your ready for this?) lighted safety canes, motion sensors that can be placed in senior's
bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and medication areas, and talking pill cases that remind you to take your meds. And no, these
gadgets were not presented as devices that will help boomers with aging parents; it was attempting to talk to boomers.
Hello young TV producers, we'd like to remind you the oldest of the boomers
are just turning sixty, which we know seems ancient to you, but just ask Paul McCartney how quickly 64 gets here. Well
this sent The Three
Tomatoes off on a serious rant which included those segments specifically
geared to women over 45 where the interviewer and interviewee "expert" discussing topics like hot flashes, are younger than half of the shoes in
our closets. Just remember this, gen-xer's, there are a lot more of us out there than you and we can still kick
your butts and send you to your rooms.
So here's The Three Tomatoes segment on stuff
we think is cool, high tech, low tech and even low brow.

glasses, Metro cards, and change for the cabbie or whatever? Well here's a light made just for handbags.
Attach this micro-light inside any zipper, flap or snap opening, and it shines a bright beam into your pack or bag as soon as it's opened. The Black Hole Light

Personal Trainers on your iPod
No, we don't love exercising anymore than you do. But the longer it
keeps us from those lighted canes and senior motion detectors, we'll keep on doing it. But we need all the motivation we can get,
like personal trainers. So here's a way to get have a personal trainer at your disposable, 24/7.
Here are a few fitness programs that are available for downloading to your iPod.
At www.iamplify.com, you can download morning meditation programs, cardio treadmill fat blasters, road warrior workouts, pilates,
yogo and weight loss programs to your iPod. Individual downloads start at $1.99. Or you can
subscribe to a specific trainer for an average of around $11.99 a month, and get a program sent to you every week which builds on the one before.
Podfitness

custom assembled just for you (it's not a pre-recorded static workout), built on what they claim is the world's largest audio exercise library. Your

$19.99. www.podfitness.com.
Remember Maxwell Smart talking into his phone? Well Nike
and iPod have teamed up with a product called the Sport Kit2
that allows your Nike+ shoe to talk to your iPod nano. This product will start shipping July 13th and lets you listen to tunes
while you track your progress on an iPod nano, providing feedback on distance, time, pace and calories burned directly through the
headphones. After your run, a performance summary appears on the nano screen and can be heard through the headphones. Now if it
could just do your run for you while you sleep in, how perfect would that be?
The One-Minute Drink Chiller
Your guests have arrived and you forgot to chill the pinot grigio.
Not to worry, The One Minute-Drink Chiller chills drinks 90 times faster than a refrigerator, and 40 times faster than a freezer
(without risk of freezing). It cools cans of soda to 38 F in just one minute, and can chill a bottle of white wine to the low-50s F in less than four
minutes. And it stops automatically when your drink reaches the correct temperature. Available at hammacher.com for $99.95.
Be a wine snob with ease
Also available from Hammacher Schlemmer, is the world's only portable wine database. This compact device contains reviews,
ratings, and prices from 2005 for more than 10,000 wines and spirits (covering 2,800 wineries worldwide) as compiled by the experts at Wine
Enthusiast magazine. It was $49.95 and is now $24.95. Check it out.
Time Strip Smart Labels
If you have stuff in your frig that's taken on a life of it's own, then put
this little Time Strip smart label on to the package and it starts
the countdown from the time you open the product to the "use by date". Thank goodness they don't make those for people!
You can learn more and buy them online at: http://www.timestrip.com.
Have a happy and safe 4th!
‘til next week,
