The Other Footprints

With Earth Day just past we’ve heard a lot about the carbon footprint, the measure that human activity has on the environment. The picture above depicts the per capita greenhouse gas emissions effect on our world.

I’d like to turn your attention to some other footprints…the effect that “couple footprints” are having on us economically in the state of Wisconsin and throughout the U.S.

You still have the opportunity to come and hear David Blankenhorn in person this Wednesday as he presents the findings from a recent report for the nation entitled: The Taxpayer Costs of Divorce and Unwed Childbearing. David will be addressing how the path we are on in society has a great economic effect on each tax payer in the state of Wisconsin. This discussion moves past the social issue and talks about our pocket books. You might not be able to do something about gas heading toward $4.00 and wheat and rice prices going through the roof, but there are some real and tangible things you can do to the impact the “couple footprint” in our state. Don’t miss this important event:

Wednesday April 30th

12  noon - 1:30 pm

Milwaukee Area Technical College

1015 N. 6th St.

Main Building, 6th Floor, Room M 605

Feel free to bring your own bag lunch.

Pastor and Priest Potential!

Executive Director Susan Dutton Freund has been co-hosting and speaking at Marriage Impact conferences around the state. Sub-titled "How the Church Can Reduce Divorce and Strengthen Marriage", these events are geared toward clergy and ministry leaders. Containing lots of practical advice on how you can affect the health of marriages in your congregation and community, the conferences provide real-life examples, teaching materials and a menu of ideas for how to build a marriage-valuing church. Two more conferences are coming up May 6th in Racine and May 8th in Milwaukee. Co-sponsored by Wisconsin Family Council, you can still register for the one day events by calling 888-378-7395 or go to www.wifamilycouncil.org  and download a registration form.

Here’s an idea for lay leaders!

Pass this newsletter on to your Pastor or Priest and as an added bonus, here is a great website that they may also find helpful!

Georgia on My Mind

Seven of our staff members recently attended a Marriage CoMission event in Rome, Georgia. The CoMission is a group of allied forces working to strengthen the national marriage movement. We learned from other healthy marriage initiatives throughout the country and also shared the news of what is happening right here in Wisconsin. It’s exciting to see this grassroots movement gaining momentum across our country!

If you'd like to see more happening in your own local area to support and strengthen the family, contact us. We'll be happy to share ideas and resources.

We hope to see you at the David Blankenhorn event this Wednesday, please introduce yourself!
