Dear ,
Blessings to you
from the Jernigan Family!
Today, December 1st
is World AIDS Day and we are in the midst of a place where AIDS is taking its
toll. In Ghana we see reminders daily
through billboards and bumper stickers telling us to show compassion to those
with HIVAIDS. In Sub-Saharan Africa (the region where Ghana is
located) 25.8 million adults and children are living with HIV. Our perspectives
are changing since only about 30% of the people in Ghana have access to a doctor.
As
Ju is chosen to answer Gods call as a pediatrician in Ghana we ask
for your prayers for wisdom, understanding, protection and compassion. Our
vision is being enlarged so that we can be most effective in our work here by
broadening our emphasis to serve in multiple locations including the Lake
Bosumtwe Clinic, and through outreaches. The need is great and the workers are
few.

Would you consider sending
a gift to invest in the work God has called us to do through our service
in
Ghana? Whether $10 or $1000, we need your help and
ask you to consider joining with us through a special gift this month.

Our first month (August) our leadership gave
us the time to get established, find our way around and get accustomed
to the
way of life here. Next (September) we started Culture & Language
School
(it is to last for 6-8 months). The second month, (October) consisted
of going
deeper into phonology of the language (we are learning Akan Ashanti
Twi). Now,
having finished our fourth month here (November) we received our 4x4,
10 seat Nissan Patrol and have moved into our home
and we are beginning to get settled. The degree of flexibility and
unpredictability required for life here caught us off guard. It is a
great
reassurance that we can focus on getting a grip on the language, a feel
for the
cultural differences, and take the first year of this learning to see
how God
will use us within the team of missionaries here in the central Ghana
region.

Our ministry has taken on
many aspects that we didnt quite expect so quickly. As missionaries of The Mission Society we are
given the strict guidelines that during the first year you ministry is
language and culture learning. We had no idea how it truly does absorb all
your time figuring out how to live when you cannot speak, cannot relate, cannot
understand, and have to learn the massive cultural differences keeping
composure and not loosing it. Ju is seeing patients quite regularly from our
house, and Andrew is getting out building relationships with Muslim businessmen
to help with computer problems and minister. The letters, cards, phone calls,
gifts and the emails that we receive from you all have been really moving to
both of us. Thank you for being willing to allow God to work in and also
through you. We have been given so many reasons to be grateful, and reminded of
it so much lately.
|
We ask for your prayers.
We praise God for His grace and victory in the trials. We are so grateful that
you are part of our lives and care to be aware of whats happening.
Your friends,
Andrew & Juliana
