Carls first mill.

October, 2006

A note from Carl . . .

Now that the Lucas court case thing is more or less behind me (the Supreme Court ruled in my favour against Lucas), it is good to be back talking about - and selling - the Peterson portable sawmill.

During the many months of my semi-retirement I have missed all those interesting, informative, and uplifting telephone conversations with Peterson mill owners around the world.

If you think I know a lot about sawmills, I've got to tell you that I've learned a lot of it from my own customers. Those conversations have been just as valuable to me as I hope they have been for you.

Anyway, I'm back (by choice) and I'm eager to take on the world with an even better product, and with the support of an amazing creative and productive team.

And so, whether you are already a Peterson mill owner, or just thinking about the possibility, I'm looking forward to talking with you. Your questions have always formed the basis of this business, so keep talking and keep those questions coming. How else can we know how to take those last tiny, refining steps that will complete the 'perfect sawmill'?

That is me in the picture above, with one of my first portable sawmills that I made when I moved to New Zealand, way back in 1988.

Until next time,

Carl Peterson

Working the Peterson at the Hamburg Woodworking Show

Photo of the Month . . .

Following on from the September newsletter, our Photo of the Month is actually a Photo Diary of Layla's first show in Hamburg, New York, USA. While it is not Layla's first time to the States, she is currently learning a lot about the people, the place, and the wood!

Chris and Layla are currently touring the US to demonstrate the recently released SKILLMILL as well as the commercial Peterson Portable Sawmill range. Read the journal, see the remaining dates for the US roadshow, or find out more info about the mill on the Skillmill website.

The Peterson newbies
And we keep getting bigger...

The Peterson family continues to grow bigger with the addition of three new staff in recent weeks.
Emma Aldridge is our new Marketing Assistant, helping Trudi and Nicky with show bookings, newsletters and the like. Austin Gear has signed on to write the new and update the old manuals for each of our mills and accessories. And Chris is our new CAD (Computer Animated Drawing) guy who prepares all the drawings for the boys in the factory.

Read their full profiles, and those of the rest of the Peterson team, on our Staff Profiles page.

Sadly, Rex Gotz will be leaving us this month to move to Australia. All is not lost though - he will be working for a Peterson owner in Perth, running his ASM. Rex has been an integral part of the company in the Sales office, and in recent times looked after our Australian Regional Centers.

Dots Game

And in other news . . .

* Did you know that we actually boil our rollers in the microwave before putting them onto a Peterson mill? It stops the bearings from falling out later on.

* And another little game for you to kill some time. All you have to do is hit the red, avoid the purple, and aim for the bonus yellow!
