Applications

The First Mobile WiMAX Gaming Device - There's been plenty of talk about how WiMAX could work wonders for device integration as well as inciting a new era for mobile devices. Now some evidence of that is becoming clearer in the gaming world with the first WiMAX-enabled gaming device.

Professional Services Set WiMAX Vendor Offerings Apart - In addition to selling hardware and software, the WiMAX ecosystem offers a range of professional services to speed network design, integration, and support.

Business

Airspan can do what it wants - Statements by Airspan's Paul Senior regarding an FDD WiMAX profile have been met with displeasure by the WiMAX ForumTM. The truth is, Airspan can do what it wants.

Clearwire and Sprint make up? - Sprint and Clearwire have revived talks for a nation wide WiMAX network that would use funding from Intel, Google and Best Buy.

700 MHz WiMAX $4 billion in 2011 - While the media focuses on a half dozen multi-bilion dollar service providers (AT&T, Verizon and Google), the real story in the 700 MHz auction is the 200 FCC-approved bidders who are competing for blocks of spectrum in their immediate service areas with an eye to opening a range of revenue generating services while prying customers away from their competitors.

Movement With Sprint: Will WiMAX Be Affected? - With last week's announcement of 4,000 job cuts, reductions in its retail footprint and the loss of three top executives, many wonder what all these changes with Sprint will mean for Xohm.

Battle Heats Up for TV Spectrum "White Space" Use - The FCC recently announced that it would begin a second series of tests for proposed unlicensed band devices that would use the so-called "white space" between digital TV channels.

Deployments

Packet One Malaysia Calls on Alcatel-Lucent for 2.3 GHz WiMAX Network - Packet One Networks of Malaysia (P1) has selected Alcatel-Lucent to deploy and manage a commercial WiMAX network in the 2.3 gigahertz (GHz) spectrum band, a deal valued at USD71 million for Phase 1 of deployment. A successful deployment of WiMAX services will help establish Malaysia as one of Asia-Pacific's wireless broadband leaders.

Description/Course Outline
A series of 3 skills-based courses for network planners.  This four-day program teaches all of the radio-frequency and IP-network design skills necessary to pass the WiMAX Network DesignerTM exam and includes the classes listed below:

(1) Overview of RF Design

(2) RF Design for WiMax

(3) WiMax Core Networks.

WiMAX & 802.16e: Broadband Wireless Access

This course is designed for students who are working on WiMAX and 802.16 products and services, or expect to be working on those projects soon. This course will provide the student with broad knowledge on current WiMAX and 802.16 standards, trends, issues and technologies. We have included content that is emerging from recent IEEE 802.16 working group meetings and letter ballots.

Wi-Fi Mesh RF Designer Boot CampTM (NEW)

This course is a three-day Boot Camp event, which covers all of the necessary skills to prepare a technical student to design a municipal mesh network. The three-day event is comprised of two modular courses in RF Design: Overview of RF Design Principles, and RF Design for Mesh Networks. This course is targeted at engineers who are planning a municipal, public safety, or campus mesh deployment, and who need the RF design skills, balancing the requirements of service quality (including throughput and performance) with minimum capital and operations cost.
