STATE CAPITOL FOUNTAIN TURNS PINK

Join us at noon on October 1 and see the Harrisburg State Capitol's East Wing Fountain turn pink to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness month!  I will be joining Leslie Stiles, Executive Director of the PA Commission for Women and PBCC Honorary Chair, Lieutenant Governor Catherine Baker Knoll, and Jim Creedon, Secretary of the Department of General Services as we commemorate breast cancer awareness with this spectacular visual.

You are also invited to join us at 10:00 am on October 3, when the PBCC and the PA Commission for Women will be in Pittsburgh to turn the Point State Park fountain pink.  Bonnie Harr, PBCC Southwest Vice President, will speak at this event.

The third fountain to turn pink will be the Perry Square Fountain located at North Park Row in Erie.  That will occur at 10:00 am on October 4.

The fountains will be pink throughout the month of October as a reminder to all Pennsylvanians about the importance of breast cancer issues.

Fundraisers of the Month
Biking for Breast Cancer

Above: Andrew Baloga and The Varsity Project recently designed and built a custom pink bicycle.  He sold raffle tickets and raffled the bike at a LiveStrong Challenge event in Philadelphia last month.   $730 was raised for the PBCC and Ann Brooks of Mechanicsburg was the lucky winner!  Thank you, Andrew!

Below: Robin Smith, a resident of Mount Gretna and avid bicyclist, undertook a 200-mile bike ride along the perimeter of Lancaster County - she called it a Nightmare Ride.  She started in the pre-dawn hours and finished 16 hours later.  Robin collected pledges and donated $2600 to the PBCC.  Thanks so much, Robin!

Visit our Grassroots Partners page for more photos of this event and many others.

PBCC ANNUAL CONFERENCE
Cary Massa Memorial Scholarships Available

To honor their beloved friend, family member and loved one, those who knew Cary Massa were moved to act to preserve her memory after her death.  Cary was an active member of the ABC'S support group of Carlisle and a dedicated volunteer for the PBCC Annual Conference each year, so her friends and family wanted to ensure that her spirit remained present at the conference she enjoyed so much.

To memorialize Cary, her friends and family worked with the PBCC to create the Cary Massa Memorial Scholarship Fund, which will provide financial assistance to those who wish to attend the PBCC Annual Conference, but would be unable to due to their financial situation.

If you would like to attend the conference but cannot afford the registration fee, please click to get more information and to download the scholarship application

Please note that scholarships cover only the registration fee - they do not cover transportation expenses, lodging, or continuing education credits.

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS SEPTEMBER 21, 2007.

Applicants will be notified about the status of their applications by September 30, 2007.

For more information, or to have an application mailed to you, contact Kim Eubanks at 717-738-9567 x 104 or kim@pabreastcancer.org.
