Export Controls & Compliance
Roundtable Discussion:
COMMERCIAL
ENCRYPTION EXPORT CONTROLS
Thursday, Septepmber 27, 2007 • 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Westar
Export and
reexport controls on commercial encryption products are administered by the
Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Rules
governing exports and reexports of encryption items are found in the Export
Administration Regulations (EAR). U.S. encryption export policy rests
on three principles: review of encryption products prior to sale, streamlined
post-export reporting, and license review of certain exports and reexports of
strong encryption to foreign governments. In December 2004, the EAR were
amended to streamline and strengthen export and reexport controls on encryption
items, in keeping with these principles. This roundtable
will focus on the unique provisions related to encryption under the
EAR. Join us to discuss export licensing related to encryption. Share
your
knowledge or come with questions to discuss these issues with your
peers. Click here for the flyer and registration
form. Click here for Directions to Westar.
International Intellectual Property Rights Seminar
Tuesday, October 16, 2007
8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Dynetics
Globalization and the rapid
proliferation of technology have elevated the importance of intellectual
property protection for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). The
intangible nature of intellectual property and the worldwide inconsistency of
standard practices create challenges for U.S. businesses wishing to protect
their inventions, brands, and business methods in foreign markets. The three
most common vehicles for protecting intellectual property are patents,
trademarks, and copyrights. This seminar is intended to provide exporters with
a brief overview of intellectual property rights and the methods being employed
to protect those rights internationally.
There is
no such thing as an "international copyright." So how do you protect your Intellectual Property in the International
Marketplace? Join NAITA, the Birmingham
Export Assistance
Center, and the Alabama
District Export Council for this 1/2 day informative
session on an evolving field in today's high-tech global economy. Click here for flyer and
registration form. Click here for Directions to Dynetics.

As a participant, you will learn about commodity
jurisdiction, registration, licensing, shipping, record-keeping, and reporting
requirements. Gain detailed information on determining what falls under ITAR,
license applications, use of D-Trade, information required for AES filing, and
