US Consumers Prefer
Wi-MAX to Wi-FI,
Cellular - A recent survey of 1,200 respondents earlier this year by
In-Stat Research indicated that when given a choice, US consumers preferred WiMAX over 3G cellular data and Wi-Fi services. The
respondents were asked a series of questions regarding their interest in various wireless broadband services, with each service description based on
what is currently or will soon be available.
Upcoming Wireless Battle -Latest news reveals that Intel has pulled out of 3G and Ericsson
has pulled out of WiMAX. Intel is reported to have stated that all its notebook
platforms will be WIMAX capable, essentially pulling the plug on 3G. Ericsson
on the other hand says 3G is where its at.
WiMAX in Pakistan - Wateen Telecom (A UAE based subsidiary) has been in the works of deploying
one of the largest WiMAX network in Pakistan. This network is being
deployed by Motorola under a $60 million (USD) deal to deploy and implement the
MOTOwi4TM nationwide wireless broadband voice and data network all over the
country.
Korea's WiBro - According to some news sources, Korea Telecom's WiBro (which stands for
Wireless Broadband) will be expanding its service to cover all parts of Seoul including subway
lines. WiBro is Korea's
WiMAX compatible wireless internet platform. The service provides users with
approximately 1-3 Mbps and mobility of up to 120kph.
