Keeping our Communities Safe
through a Partnership
with Local Law Enforcement
On March 4, we
launched Waste Watch, a community safety and crime watch partnership with local law enforcement from throughout the Puget Sound. Waste Watch
teaches our drivers to act as additional eyes and ears in the neighborhoods they service.
“Waste Watch
is a way to formalize what our professional drivers have been doing for years on their routes. When they notice something suspicious they
report it to our dispatchers or directly to authorities.” said Waste Management District Manager Greg Hale.
Waste Management
Drivers were trained by Waste Management Corporate Security Director, Kris Spilsbury. Spilsbury teaches drivers what constitutes
suspicious activity. Such activity could be individuals peaking in windows, breaking into cars or videotaping government
buildings.
“I think
it’s fabulous,” said Renton Police Community Programs Coordinator Terri Vickers. “Extra eyes and ears in the community are
always a good thing. The drivers at Waste Management know their routes and the neighborhoods they serve and are able to recognize suspicious
activity” when they see it, added Vickers.
We’ve Waste Watch certified hundreds of
drivers from throughout the Puget Sound and are looking forward to bringing the benefits of Waste Watch to your community.
