GREETINGS

Walking in the woods behind my house the other day I saw a cedar tree that had been hammered open by a woodpecker. Normally I see about 20 or so quarter-sized holes in the trees, but this tree had about 50 box-shaped openings the size of desk top computer speakers. All I can think of to explain this frenetic activity is that the woodpecker must be getting a little stir crazy waiting for the sun to hatch the insects. If you're like me, you're feeling a little lonesome for the sun as well. Hang in there...I actually saw the sun the other day and it is still round and still warm.

ACTIVITIES AND TIMELY TIPS

John, Joe & Susan Need Help with a Summer Project

John Norlin, Sumner High ASB Adviser, and Joe Fenbert and Susan Fortin, Washington Student Leadership, plan to work on a document with a working title: Why Student Leadership Works and the Research Studies that Prove It. We are currently gathering resource material related to school climate, student leadership or extra-curricular activities. If you know of an article, book or masters thesis related to our project, please contact Joe Fenbert  joef@awsp.org
Our plan is to create an adviser-friendly document that can be used to justify, expand or start student leadership programs.

And...just to get you excited about this anticipated document, here are some of the sources we plan to mine for gold nuggets this summer.
We found the existence of this paper through an internet search:
