Coach's Corner
By Dan Ross

To liven up practice and set yourself apart from other coaches, add interactive drills to your regimen! Try a ZigZag drill to help players with speed and footwork by dividing them into equal groups about 30’ from the Sportwall. Place cones or markers in a ZigZag pattern all the way to the Sportwall and set it to Game 1-1. Each player must dribble around each marker and then kick the ball off the panel, receive it, dribble back and pass it to the next player.

If you have a Performance PT and want to get really serious, split the players into 2 lines about 30 feet away form the panels. Set the PT to Game 9-3 and the time to 5 seconds. Each team (Team X and Team O) will kick the ball off of the wall and the other team will have 5 seconds to return it! Each player kicks once and goes to the back of their line. First team to 7 points wins!

In bad weather or in an off day, try using the Dance Dance Revolution to enhance foot-eye coordination while getting a great cardio workout! It keeps players aware of balance and spatial awareness, all while dancing to the rhythm!

Sportwall for the Fall!

Fall is here and that means the school year and soccer season are in full swing. We have focused the newsletter this month on XerGames activities that are appropriate for this time of year.

You will find soccer drills in the Coach’s Corner that can be used for soccer practice, gym class or even personal training sessions.  Whether the weather is cold or even damp, these activities will really get the body moving.

Featured this month are stories from teachers whose classes love Sportwall. You will also find an interesting study from Naperville School (see link in column to the left).

For those of you at schools, we want PE to become irresistible to your students! For those of you at JCCs, YMCAs and Health Clubs, the Sportwall team is here to support you in every way we can.

A Good School Example

I was
working with my preschoolers on striking.  I placed polyspots beside the Sportwall for them to stand on.  Each child was then given a noodle, taught to put their side to the wall, and strike a specific target. They continously did this for two minutes going into a batter stance
between each swing.  At a later date I was teaching them how to do a relay race.  When I gave them noodles to hit the Sportwall, almost all of them ran up to the Sportwall took the batter stance and struck that specific target. This just shows you how excellent the retention is with Interactive Learning products. The elementary kids could repeat a lesson learned weeks earlier, without a repeat demonstration. Go Sportwall!

From a PE Teacher Today

"The older I get the more I appreciate the Sportwall"!  Today my lesson was around following directions and the kids were doing aerobic activity the entire time as I caught many not following two simple rules.
      1. Wait behind the black line (space awareness).
      2. Strike the wall with the noodle only one time.
They get so excited they run ahead and get the noodle and hit the wall 1-5 times.  It is a good way to stress that there are always boundaries in sports and one needs to concentrate and be aware of where the boundaries are at all times. And, often in sports you get only one chance to do something...ie.  Catch a high fly coming at you. Easy lesson and the Sportwall did the work!  I like the ladders drawn on the floor with the walls.  I use one that I need to spread out on the floor.

Hey Jim,
Woah! That is a hot score.
I usually play Game 3-2 for 30 seconds but now I will work on my 10 second "Chase the Target" score!  Does anyone else have a high score to share with us? Please include the game played, time and your score.

We are always looking for fun stories about Sportwall products and new ideas that can be shared with all.  Please contact me with your inspirational Sportwall stories to be included in future newsletters.
