Need a Master’s Degree to More Effectively Interface with Technology in Business?

The Department of Information Systems and Operations Management in the College of Business recently launched a Fort Worth-based cohort Master of Science degree in Information Systems for working professionals who interface with information technology.  Designed with business in mind, this master’s degree is an excellent way for managers to gain the applied knowledge to effectively work with their organizational IT department. Additionally, this degree is an ideal opportunity for IT professionals to expand their management skills.

The inaugural cohort class began in June with the next class scheduled to start in the spring semester of 2009. The 17-month MSIS Cohort program is offered in a lock-step, team-oriented format.  Each group of students takes one five-week course at a time, completing 2 or 3 courses each semester at UT Arlington’s downtown Fort Worth Center.

From the Dean

By all indications, including the temperature, summer is here in Texas. Although faculty may spend less time in the classroom during the summer, we are often teaching, researching or working all over the world.  I myself have just returned from Beijing, China where I conducted graduation and opening ceremonies for UT Arlington's Asia Executive MBA program.

The College of Business has always approached education from a global perspective. Among our most exciting programs is the Asia Executive MBA, or EMBA, one of the largest programs of its kind in China. Approximately 300 Chinese business and state-owned enterprise leaders are currently enrolled in the program. UT Arlington is preparing these executives for the rapidly changing business environment in 21st century China.

Students in our EMBA program at UT Arlington’s downtown Fort Worth Center also benefit from the Asian EMBA program through the China immersion experience. EMBA students can connect with peer EMBA working professionals in China, pursue a research project and travel to China for a 13-day trip. During their visit, students meet with their Chinese EMBA counterparts and spend time touring and studying a number of Chinese companies.

As we continue forward, both in Texas and abroad, it is always important that we hear from our alumni. In the next few weeks, the college will e-mail you a link to an online alumni survey. Your feedback from the survey will be essential to help us plan for the future. I look forward to learning more about how you are doing and your perceptions of the College of Business.

Thank you.
