When Should Your Daughter Have her First Gynecological Visit?

 

According to the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology.  The early teen years are ideal for an appointment that focuses on education, screening and preventive health … which could, but does not necessarily include a physical exam and an internal pelvic examination.  Reasons this is important include that it gives doctors an opportunity to discuss normal puberty, menstruation, healthy eating habits and preventive reproductive health.  These visits can be considered as complementary to normal pediatric care, which is recommended until patients reach the age of 21.
