On Saturday, September 29, beginning at 8:30am at city hall, a
symposium for historic property owners will be offered. The symposium
in free to Franklin citizens. Please pass this information along to
anyone you know who owns a historic property or wished they did.
Included will be the following:
1. Preservation 101: Overview of historic preservation,
historic designation, districts and historic overlays. This will be a
great introduction to people who have questions and a great refresher
for the pros.
2. Design Seminar with Brent Hull. Brent is the owner of
Hull Historical Millwork and is a sought-after restoration
contractor. Brent will discuss design issues for historic
properties. Topics will include dealing with original materials,
original doors and windows, additions, appropriate new materials,
repairs, kitchens, baths, authentic period-appropriate millwork and
many other topics. Brent will allow time to address specific questions
about your properties--submit pictures and questions to me in advance
(this is ideal) or bring them with you that day.
3. Brown bag lunch with Keynote Speaker. We'll have an exciting
guest that will speak to us on the subject of saving and utilizing
historic community theaters.
