The
Frugal Reader
December 17, 2006
Happy Birthday FR!
This December FrugalReader.com is 2 years
old and full of cheer - no "terrible twos" here. Year 2 was full of exciting growth and changes, most of which were suggested by you, our loyal
members. There were too many enhancements to list them all, but we highlighted a few for a sense of perspective and to get a feel for how far
we’ve come.
-
Redesigned the
look & feel of FR, making it warmer and more pleasant to view.
-
Added the
Buddies feature so you can better connect with
your closest fellow members.
-
Added the
Gift Credit feature so you can give credit where
credit is due.
-
Revamped the
My Wish List page including displaying the
Queue Position for each entry so you know where you are in line for the book.
-
Scheduled the
fill wishes process to run nightly and send
notification emails or perform automatic requests for matching books. Wishes continue to be filled when books are
listed.
-
Added a
Top Wishes page so you can help other members find
the books they want most.
-
Reprogrammed
all tables (forum subject threads, listed books, wish list, etc.) to save your sort
preferences within and between sessions.
However, great features don’t make a great website. FR is the best venue for people who enjoy reading, sharing and relating because of
you, our caring, thoughtful fun loving members. Thanks a super successful first 2 years!
Member Spotlight Our 10th member to enjoy the spotlight is Mary Jacobs [maryinhb]. Mary has been an FR member for most of this year and she runs two of the more popular trade groups, Best Sellers & Chick Lit. See Mary's listed books
to find your next great read. Thanks for sharing with us Mary!
Why do you
read?
I
read to expand my knowledge and escape into different worlds. Also, my extended family reads a great deal and we trade books back
and forth.
When
and where do you most enjoy reading?
I read anywhere and everywhere I can! My favorite time and place is right before I go
to sleep in bed. It always relaxes me unless I am in the middle of a really good book and then I can’t stop.
What is your
favorite recently read book?
I can’t pick just one! I just read Bloodsucking Fiends by Christopher Moore and Paint It Black by Janet Fitch.
What book is at the top of your To Be Read list?
What is one of your listed books that's a sleeper?
What is one of your favorite things to do besides reading?
I grow roses and dahlias and I am constantly redoing the yard.
What is one of the most exciting things you've ever done?
I went to Rome and a day trip to Pompeii. Both were truly
amazing places and I would love to return.
What is something interesting about you that few (if any) people know?
I am addicted to computer puzzle games like Bejeweled and Tetris.
What is one of the most insightful lessons you've learned in your life?
To not judge a book by its cover and that can apply to everything in life.
What is one aspect of FR that you're particularly fond of and why?
I love the trade groups and the forums. They create a real sense of community and are a
great way to learn about new subjects and authors. There are several genres and writers I would have never considered reading
previously.
Featured Feature Would you like to sort the forum subject threads by date posted descending - so the most recent post displays at
the top? Or perhaps you want to sort your listed books by title instead of date listed. Since sorting preferences vary by member and the
information being viewed, we made it easy to sort nearly all the tables you regularly use. Best of all, your sort
preferences are saved between sessions.
For example, in the Fun & Games forum, click the Just For Fun Game - Name Game subject
link. Click the Posted On link to sort the table such that the newest post is displayed at the top. All forum subject threads
will then automatically display the most recent post at the top. Even after you logout and then login again, the forum subject threads will display
as you last sorted them.
Spread the good news about FR to your family, friends and online buddies and earn a FREE credit when they sign up! Use the Tell A Friend page to send them an email with a link that automatically populates your nickname in
the referrer field, ensuring your free credit will be awarded. What would you like to see in the next edition of The Frugal
Reader?
