Kill Your Phantoms
You may think that when you turn an appliance off, it is, in fact, off. Actually
most of your electrical appliances that have a clock, digital timer, remote control or standby mode are still using electricity even when they
are turned off. It’s known as stand-by or phantom energy loss.
TVs and VCRs in stand-by mode waste $1 billion in lost electricity in the U.S. per
year.
Okay, so what do you do? Plug your electronics into power strips and then turn them off
when they are not in use!
