Five Musical Questions

Because every person is precious to God,we seek to imitate Jesus by meeting people in their cultural contexts.

We commit ouselves to Indigenous Worship in order to experience the timelessness of Jesus' gifts of Baptism and Eucharist by drawing from both the breadth of music, language, architecture and art forms found in 21st Century Charlotte and the rich liturgical heritage of the early unified Christian Church.

Click here to answer five brief questions about the musical tastes of the people you

know in Charlotte’s South Perimeter.  The purpose of this short survey is to get an idea of what music is “culturally relevant” to the folks at Church of the Beloved.  More importantly, I want to find out what music your friends are listening to.  Why?  Music can be a powerful outreach tool and an amazing way to communicate the love of Christ to those who may be searching.  Thanks for your participation!

This Sunday we celebrate

one of Beloved's two feast days--

The Feast of the Transfiguration.

 On this day we remember

when Jesus shone with divine glory

and God proclaimed to the disciples

that this man was his “Beloved” Son

and they should listen to him.

What are we doing each day

to listen and follow the Beloved?

Why do we Give?

In this series, Deacon Deb Blackwood details one of the ways the faithful people of Beloved have responded to the call of Jesus.  Though gifts from Beloved’s offering basket tithe have already made a profound difference in people’s lives around the world, there is more that can be done.  Our global church continues to challenge us (and millions of other Christians around the world) to accomplish the Millennium Development Goals in order to show Jesus’ face to the poorest countries of the world as together we systematically and realistically tackle the devastating poverty, sickness and lack of infrastructure we find there.

Goal #2:  Achieve Universal Primary Education

I believe that all humans should have a chance to make better lives for themselves. Too many children today grow up without this chance, because they do not have the chance to attend even primary school.  World peace and security is enhanced when citizens in every country be empowered to make positive choices and provide for themselves and their families.  This will only happen if every child has a chance to learn in a high-quality schooling environment at least through primary grades. The second Millennium Development goal is to ensure that all boys and girls complete a full course of primary schooling.

Did you know that:

  • 1 in 4 adults - 872 million  - in the developing world is illiterate, 2/3rds are women [Education Now Campaign]
  • More than 100 million children are not in school today [ActionAid]
  • 70% of those not in school are girls ActionAid]
  • 46% of girls in the world’s poorest countries have no access to primary education [ActionAid]
  • universal primary education would cost $10 billion dollars, which is less than ½ what Americans spend on ice cream [ActionAid]
Our singular direct contribution toward this Millennium Development Goal was our 2005 donation to the Anglican Cathedral Middle School in Okigwe, Nigeria where Fr. Benjamin Nnaji (who assisted briefly at Beloved during a US internship) had served on the teaching staff.  In this country, we have collected backpacks/supplies that were sent to migrant camps following Hurricane Charlie in Florida, and have contributed to organizations within the US and NC who work with at-risk children.  This is an area that Compassion International addresses by one on one family adoption with orphans in developing countries.  Interested?  Contact Catherine Atwood.  For more details about Beloved’s outreach efforts, click here.

Jesus called the children to him and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” (Luke 18:16)

A subgroup of Church of the Beloved’s Marketing Team has been working on a website project to be launched at the beginning of the next school year that will share information to help people who are new to Charlotte’s South Perimeter.  At Church of the Beloved we remember that Jesus, when incarnated, “took on flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood” (John 1:14a The Message) and we want to do the same thing.  We want to offer a welcome to those people who call Charlotte’s South Perimeter home and share information that will make living here an easier task.  We would like to share those tips that you would have loved to have been told without having to discover them for yourself.  This issue’s question: What’s your hiking, camping, adventure outing?  To respond, click here.

Beloved eNews will publish less frequently through the summer months.  The next publication date is set for August 16.  Weekly publication will resume on August 23.  News and calendar information should be submitted via email by the Monday preceding the publication date.
