Body Image Workshop Educates Adults on Major Issue Facing Girls
GENaustin invites parents and others who work with teen girls to attend a workshop on body image. Participants
will explore some causes and effects of poor body image, and they will gain tools to help girls grades 4-12 establish a positive
self-image and love for their bodies.
Statistics indicate many adolescent girls struggle with body image issues:
-
By age 13, 53% of girls are unhappy with their bodies
-
By age 18, 78% of girls are dissatisfied with their bodies
-
One in five girls will have a serious eating disorder by their early 20s (Deak, 2002)
The workshop will take place Wednesday, Feb. 28 from 6:30-8 p.m. in Conference
Room B of Dougherty Arts Center. The cost is $35, and participation will be capped at 20 people. Click here for registration and more

Two Austin Women's Conferences Support GENaustin
The Association of Women in Technology in Austin and the Remarkable Women's Conference both chose to support
GENaustin through their upcoming conferences.
At the 2007 AWTA Women's Business Conference, GENaustin will be given a platform to promote clubGEN and our other
initiatives. The Feb. 7 conference features presentations by Gay Gaddis, CEO of T3 (The Think Tank); and futurist, poet and author, Dr. Betty Sue
Flowers. To register, visit the AWTA website.
The Remarkable Women's Conference features speakers from the categories of Corporate Success,
Entrepreneurial Success, Personal Development and Health and Wellness. This year, 10% of the proceeds from the conference will be donated to
GENaustin. The conference will be held May 11-12, and a "Cooking Healthy for Your Sweetheart" workshop Feb. 7 will
build anticipation for the event. Visit the Remarkable Women's Conference website for more details.
GENaustin thanks ATWA and the Remarkable Women's Conference for their generous support.
