To weather or whether not, plus...

The thrill of the “Find”

Thanks to several tomatoes for pointing out The Three Tomatoes' “little problem” with the keyboard.  You know, mistyping those dopey words that spell check can’t catch, like weather and whether and coach and couch.  So this week, we’ll try typing without the martini in one hand -- who knows, might help our proof reading skills too.   So enough about our few teensy little faults, and onto our findes, oops, we mean finds.

The Three Tomatoes love when we find a new designer, or product, or web site that is just great fun.   Now we know we should be very mysterious when someone asks where we got that great tee shirt, purse, shoes, whatever, but we’ve never been good at keeping secrets. So here are three exciting “finds” we'll share with you, but don't tell anyone else.

You will love these fun cosmetic bags, totes, clutches, wallets, luggage tags, diaper bags and signature coin purses from New York City accessory designer Elissa Bloom. Our favorites include the whimsical beaded and sequined coin purses  each featuring handcrafted artwork faces of the “girls” like Carmen, the ditzy redhead.  And putting a little fun into this season’s herringbone and tweed trend, Elissa's Fall 2005 Collection includes a line of herringbone clutches and totes with a twist -- a bright, oversized beaded flower accent on the closure flap which makes these bags anything but boring.  You can view Elissa’s line and get instant gratification when you shop at www.elissabloom.com.  (P.S. The line is reasonably priced too.)  You can also find Elissa's creations at stores such as Fred Segal, Nordstrom, Verve, Bliss Spa along with countless other upscale boutiques and museum gift shops throughout the U.S.   And since this is breast cancer awareness month, buy one of Elissa’s specially designed breast cancer coin purses (see sidebar for details.)

My Flat in London
No, The Three Tomatoes do not have a flat in London (we wish), but we are wearing the most adorable tee shirts designed by My Flat in London.   We were aimlessly browsing through a little boutique in the “burbs” recently, when we were stopped in our tracks by a black tee shirt that featured a bee topped with a crystal jeweled crown.   And behind that tee, was one that featured a frog topped with a crystal crown, and then one with a little scotty.  And then the sales person told us to lift the hem of the tee to find the “secret message”. You see each tee has a little line like “kisses darling” and “queen for a day”.   So we did what any self-respecting tomato would do in that situation -- we bought three.  (Hey, one was a gift!)  The tees look great with jeans and if you’re really daring you can wear one to put a little fun into that boring suit. (And by the way, even with the crystal jewel, they wash great in the delicate cycle.) Then we found out from our ever-helpful sales person, (when you buy three tees you get attention) that My Flat in London also has a great line of handbags that can be found in stores like Nordstorm.   You can visit their web site www.myflatinlondon.com, but sadly it’s a work in progress and you can’t (gasp) buy anything there.  Or better yet, you can actually visit their boutique in London or their showroom in NYC.   But in the interim, we did find one site online, dkmaccessories (click here) that carries the tee shirts, some of the fun bags, and even bracelets.  Great fun, great gifts too.

And speaking of gifts, when it comes to baby gifts www.blueberrybabies.com  is our favorite place.  They have the cutest selection of really special and unusual baby gifts (up to about a year old) with everything from clothes to personalized gifts, at reasonable prices.  And if the new baby has a big brother or sister, check out their adorable “big brother/big sister” gifts too.

Hope you enjoy our finds!

You know you're a tomato if...You have two kinds of shopping friends.   The enablers who say, "oh you have to buy it".  We call those best friends.   And then the ones who say, "you don't need that".  Those are called husbands.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
200,000 women in this country are diagnosed with breast cancer every year.  We know tomatoes are smart and savvy and  don’t need  lectures about getting regular mammograms and self-exams. Great strides are being made but there is still much to do.   To find out more, visit the American Cancer Society web site,
