Third Ward Alderman Candidate Interviews
The
Board of Mayor and Aldermen will continue the interview process of
third ward alderman candidates beginning at 4:30pm this evening. Four
candidates were interviewed last night, and three will be interviewed
tonight - Cheryl Burnside has withdrawn from consideration. This
interview session will be televised lived on Cable Channel 10. BOMA has
scheduled a special meeting for next Tuesday, January 22, at 7:00pm for
the purpose of appointing someone to fill this vacancy on the board.
This will be the only item on the agenda that evening.
Columbia Avenue Public Hearing 1/23
A
public hearing on the Transportation Planning Report (TPR) for Columbia
Avenue will be held next Wednesday, January 23, beginning at 5:00pm in
the city hall boardroom. This is the second public hearing to be held
on this project for improvements of the section from Downs Boulevard to
Mack Hatcher Parkway. Preliminary design concepts will be available for
viewing. Also, at yesterday's Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)
meeting, agreement was reached to do a study for the entire Columbia
Avenue Corridor, from Kendron Road south to the Williamson County line.
This is just the first step in a long process, but it's a big first
step, and represents agreement by multiple jurisdictions that
improvements in this corridor are necessary.
Rain Gardens - Beautiful Solutions to Water Pollution
The
City of Franklin Stormwater Coordinator will be conducting a rain
garden learning session next Thursday, January 24, from 6:00 - 7:00pm
in the city hall boardroom, preceding the Planning Commission meeting.
Rain gardens reduce the amount of runoff generated during storms and
promote groundwater recharge while also beautifying landscapes.
Specific items to be addressed during this session will be costs,
maintenance, and design criteria. Learn how rain gardens can be an
integral part of stormwater solutions for both water quality and
drainage.
