Expand your living quarters outdoors with hardscaping.

Patios, decks, pavilions, water features, walkways, retaining walls, and fireplaces are hardscape elements that define space and create a mood. Begin construction now, while the weather is dry, and you’ll be finished and ready for planting in early spring.

The bones of outdoor rooms, such as wood, brick, concrete, and stone, can take your space in countless directions, depending on your goals and creative vision. For example, wood decking complements a picnic-style dining area, but it’s also at home in a contemporary garden. A stone patio can be an open space for parties or a private nook for relaxing.

Hardscaping requires in-depth planning and care. You must consider drainage, needs for lighting and irrigation access, and an incredible range of materials and prices. Our landscape architects can work with your budget and guide you from design through construction. Call us today for a consultation!

‘Yuletide’ camellia from Monrovia® brings brilliant color to your winter garden. This exceptional evergreen with dark green, glossy foliage makes a great choice for foundation planting or a sheltered area with bright shade. Fiery red blooms with yellow stamens appear in December through January. ‘Yuletide’ is drought tolerant and can thrive in sun or shade.

Exposure: Sun or shade
Height x Width: 8' to 10' tall and wide
Hardiness Zones: 7–10
Water Needs: Regularly, when top 3" of soil is dry

- plant a new shade or flowering tree. Southern magnolia and other evergreen trees will do best if planted in the spring.

- plant all varieties of shrubs, vines, groundcovers, and roses to give the root system time to establish before summer.

- spruce up! Replenish mulch to protect plant root systems. Mulch insulates the soil, slowing heat and moisture loss. Remove dead foliage and stems of perennials and other garden plants.

- keep leaves off your grass. Heavy leaf drop can smother dormant grass if left on the ground too long.

- remember your irrigation system. Even though it hasn’t been used during the drought, make sure it has been winterized.
