DID YOU KNOW Michigan was the first state to adopt a prepaid tuition program? That’s right. In 1988, the Michigan Education Trust set the standard for college savings programs in the United States. Today, 20 states have similar prepaid tuition programs and every state now has a college savings program. MET ranks among the top prepaid tuition programs in the country, having sold more than 82,000 contracts with assets of nearly $1 billion. WHAT IF MY STUDENT ATTENDS A MICHIGAN PRIVATE COLLEGE OR OUT-OF-STATE COLLEGE OR
UNIVERSITY? There are currently 975 students with MET contracts attending private colleges in Michigan, and another 1,804 MET students attending out-of-state colleges and universities. “We did the math and were pretty sure MET was a safe investment even if we moved out of state,” said parent Diane McCausey, whose family relocated to Florida after purchasing their MET contract. “Even though our son did not get the in-state tuition rate at Florida State University, MET paid for all four years of his tuition. I believe it cost about $7,000 for Matt's contract, and we have received approximately $20,000 of tuition benefits.” Bottom line: Even when applied to a private or out-of-state institution, a MET contract holds its value and is a
safeguard against the rising cost of tuition in Michigan and beyond. |
