Forget About 'No Pain, No Gain'
When it comes to healing, pain is the indicator that you are over stressing the tissue. That means that when you are recovering from a serious injury, you should avoid activities that cause you pain.
Rest is important during the first 1-3 days after your injury. This is when your body undergoes an inflammatory response prior to forming the scar matrix necessary to heal injured tissue. Unnecessary stress on healthy tissue means you may delay healing or create instability.
During the healing phase after your injury, proper movements and exercise will stress the involved tissue but should not cause excessive or prolonged increase in pain. Your physical therapist is an expert in determining the right amount and intensity of exercise to help you heal quickly and effectively.

The RBPT Ambassador Club™ Walked Toward a Healthier Lifestyle!
On June 30th, the Reading-Berks Physical Therapy staff, patients, and many of our dedicated Ambassador Club™ members all joined together for National Walk @ Lunch Day, a workplace walking program which encourages people to take time during their lunch breaks to start walking toward better health.
One of the walkers, Pat Janowski, mentioned, "I've always wished that more people realized the numerous benefits of being active. Not only is it good for your general health and well-being, but it has also been proven to contribute towards a more productive day. Today's event was a great way to show people how easy it is to add exercise into your daily routine."
