What are your 2008 New Year's resolutions?

Was giving back to the community one? Well, now's the perfect time to volunteer as a classroom mentor. Whether you've never been in the classroom before, or you've volunteered for years, we have many classrooms which still need volunteers!

Five great reasons to be a classroom mentor:

  1. You are a role model for the students-they look up to you!
  2. Helping students think about and prepare for their future
  3. Sharing your experiences and knowledge
  4. It's a rewarding experience for both the students and the volunteer. You are learning too!
  5. It's easy! Designed to be a turnkey program.

These volunteers are already making great things happen in the classrooms

-Members of the Financial Planner's Association connected with 6th grade students in the business program at Commerce Middle School, Yonkers connected to teach JA Economics for Success

-In December, the Kraft Foods team took over Trinity Elementary School in New Rochelle at a very successful, very high energy JA in a Day

-Linda Alvarez-Cruz and her team of assistant principals are leading recruiting efforts to bring JA programs to all elementary schools in East Ramapo Central School District in Rockland County

-Michael Zarkower of Progressive is a parent coordinator at Bruno M. Ponterio Ridge Street Elementary school in Rye Brook. He has filled all of the 31 JA classes with parent teams.

You can help JA make a difference in your community too!

  A program to suit everyone

With the wide variety of JA programs and topics offered, and the impact they make with students, it's no wonder educators continually request Junior Achievement in their classrooms

Elementary - Students learn the basic concepts of business and economics and how education is relevant to the workplace.

Middle - Students are introduced to many economic concepts and useful facts about the working world.

High School - Junior Achievement's high school programs help students make informed, intelligent decisions about their future, and foster skills that will be highly useful in the business world.

Junior Achievement: Making a difference one classroom at a time for 35 years!
