Taking Action!
“Things may come to those who wait, but only the
things left by those who hustle.” Abraham Lincoln is the author of that quote and it always creates a picture in my mind
that makes me smile, maybe because I have been on both sides of experiencing that truth. And only the hustlers say, rather smugly
too, “you snooze, you loose”.
The book I’m working my way through is Jack
Canfield’s “The Success Principles – How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be.”
It’s excellent and Principle 13 is titled “Take Action” and this is a quote from it. “When you
take action, you trigger all kinds of things that will inevitably carry you to success. You let those around you know that you are
serious in your intention. People wake up and start paying attention. People with similar goals become aligned
with you. You begin to learn things from your experience that cannot be learned from listening to others or from reading
books. You begin to get feedback about how to do it better, more efficiently, and more quickly. Things that
once seemed confusing begin to become clear. Things that once appeared difficult begin to be easier. You begin
to attract others who will support and encourage you. All manner of good things begin to flow in your direction once you begin to
take action.”
Whew! Each sentence in that one
paragraph is a gem unto itself isn’t it? This is what success is built on—taking action. Ever
notice that the most successful people are always the busiest? Successful people know that planning has its place, but action is
the key to achievement. Once you’ve held a few parties you know what questions to ask. Those parties
provide the experience to ask questions that in turn will give you the feedback and support from others to have more successful parties.
The icing on the cake though is that taking action builds your self-confidence. Then, even when you make mistakes, that
confidence laughs it off and says, “I learned something” rather than saying, “I failed”.
So if you’re waiting until you’ve learned
everything about everything in Tomboy Tools or are just plain old procrastinating, watch out—you may have a new consultant in your backyard
hustling.
