Taking Action!

“Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.”  Abraham Lincoln is the author of that quote and it always creates a picture in my mind that makes me smile, maybe because I have been on both sides of experiencing that truth.  And only the hustlers say, rather smugly too, “you snooze, you loose”.

The book I’m working my way through is Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles – How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be.”  It’s excellent and Principle 13 is titled “Take Action” and this is a quote from it.  “When you take action, you trigger all kinds of things that will inevitably carry you to success.  You let those around you know that you are serious in your intention.  People wake up and start paying attention.  People with similar goals become aligned with you.  You begin to learn things from your experience that cannot be learned from listening to others or from reading books.  You begin to get feedback about how to do it better, more efficiently, and more quickly.  Things that once seemed confusing begin to become clear.  Things that once appeared difficult begin to be easier.  You begin to attract others who will support and encourage you.  All manner of good things begin to flow in your direction once you begin to take action.”

Whew!  Each sentence in that one paragraph is a gem unto itself isn’t it?  This is what success is built on—taking action.  Ever notice that the most successful people are always the busiest?  Successful people know that planning has its place, but action is the key to achievement.  Once you’ve held a few parties you know what questions to ask.  Those parties provide the experience to ask questions that in turn will give you the feedback and support from others to have more successful parties.  The icing on the cake though is that taking action builds your self-confidence.  Then, even when you make mistakes, that confidence laughs it off and says, “I learned something” rather than saying, “I failed”.

So if you’re waiting until you’ve learned everything about everything in Tomboy Tools or are just plain old procrastinating, watch out—you may have a new consultant in your backyard hustling.

Do I or don’t I?  Almost one year ago I signed up as a consultant with Tomboy Tools, my kit arrived and I loved everything!  But where in my busy schedule was I going to put this?  I work full time as an Office Manager for a general contractor, I am a licensed Realtor and I do interior decorating on the side.  The holidays were just around the corner and I had just adopted a Belgian Malinois puppy who was high energy and high maintenance.  No one was interested in having a tool party during this busy time of the year.  I didn’t have the time to figure out how to use the tools and present them properly.  I couldn’t find my way around the website very quickly.  I didn’t like the hostess program.  I just wasn’t going to do it.  So my kit found a place in the garage and was used occasionally when I needed to do something myself.

I had pretty much forgotten about my commitment to Tomboy Tools, my sponsor Janice Law and myself.   Months went by and I would occasionally read the information sent by my up line.  Interesting things were happening but I still couldn’t get myself going.  Then I began working on some projects at my home and found I was having difficulty with the heavy tools my boss loaned me.  It was a “Duh” moment and I thought “why don’t I have my own tools to do this when I am a Tomboy Tools consultant?”

I talked with Janice in early August and told her it was time for me to “do it or forget it”.   Being the incredible sponsor that she is she loaded up her vehicle with every Tomboy Tool product there is and drove from Louisiana to El Paso, clear across the state of Texas, to help me host my first tool party.  I had 12 guests in attendance, most of whom said they were there to show support but had no intentions of buying anything.  To my surprise they were the ones who purchased the most and booked future parties!  Janice showed me that doing a party isn’t difficult – it’s fun.  The tools sell themselves if we can just get them into people’s hands.  I didn’t have to be an expert at everything I just needed to know our product.  Thanks to the support I received from Janice and the rest of my up line I sold almost $2,500 in product in less than two weeks and recruited two new Tomboys.  Was it difficult?  NO.  Was it time consuming? NO.  Was it fun? YES.  Did I feel empowered and enthusiastic?  YES.

I have believed in the Tomboy Tool concept since it was first introduced to me back when the company started.  The company is constantly growing and making positive changes for all of us and I am proud to be a part of it.  I believe in the product and that women can and should be empowered to handle things on their own.  Most importantly I believe in myself and I know that no matter how busy my life gets Tomboy Tools is going to fit in somewhere!
