NSABP OPENS NEW PATHOLOGY LAB

(L to R: Pat Halpin-Murphy, Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, Mary Lois Verrilla)
The NSABP Foundation (National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project), the nation's largest clinical trial cooperative group in
breast and colorectal cancer research, opened its new pathology lab in Pittsburgh on October 30th.
It was my honor to cut the ribbon at the
Pathology Laboratory opening ceremony along with Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and Mary Lois Verrilla, breast cancer survivor and participant in
an NSABP clinical trial. Former First Lady Michele Ridge was a special guest at the opening. The new lab, with advanced technology and
dedicated researchers, allows the NSABP to conduct specialized studies to identify targeted treatments for breast and colorectal cancer. The
National Cancer Institute has heralded the new lab's tissue bank as a national treasure.

Dear ,
IN FOND MEMORY Scholarship Created in Memory of Maggie
Mudd
|
We were all deeply saddened by the October 14th loss of our dear friend and long-time PBCC board member, Maggie Mudd.
Maggie practiced marriage and family therapy in Gettysburg for over 25 years and was founder of Family Mediation Services. We join her family
and many friends in mourning her loss. Maggie was a firm believer in breast cancer education, and the PBCC has established a special
scholarship fund to honor her memory. Each year, two or more women from Adams County will attend the PA Breast Cancer Coalition Annual
Conference on a full scholarship. Application information will be available prior to the 2007 conference.

| PBCC SALUTES BILL SPONSOR SPEAKER JOHN M. PERZEL
|
Speaker of the House John M. Perzel recently introduced the PA Cancer Clinical Trials bill. The bill requires
that routine patient care expenses of approved clinical trials be covered by insurers and other health care providers. Passage of this
legislation would open doors for thousands across the commonwealth, giving them access to approved clinical trials which would advance research and
provide improved treatment for those touched by cancer.
At our October conference, Speaker Perzel received the PBCC's Pink Ribbon Award for
his work in the legislature on behalf of breast cancer survivors, patients, and all women 40 and older. The sponsorship of this clinical trials
legislation is just another reason why Speaker Perzel is an outstanding recipient of this award.

PBCC EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ATTENDS LIVESTRONG
SUMMIT
|
Heather Hibshman was one of 800 leaders selected to attend the inaugural Lance Armstrong Foundation LiveStrong
Summit October 27-29 in Austin, Texas. The summit was designed to lead a survivorship movement to broaden awareness and identify the unmet
physical, emotional and practical needs of those living with cancer. Speakers included Lance Armstrong, Senator John Kerry, and former US
Surgeon General Dr. Antonia Novello.
Heather says, "I was proud to be there representing Pennsylvania's breast cancer survivors. I
learned that, although it may sound cliché, one person truly can make a difference. In fact, all it takes is one to have
an idea, to lead the charge, to talk to a senator, to drive a friend to treatment."

BIG COUNTRY'S BRAS ACROSS THE SUSQUEHANNA Our Cup Runneth Over!
|
Dawn Marie, well-known radio personality on Big Country Radio (92.3 FM, 98.3
FM, 100.5 FM and AM 1240) in Selinsgrove, came up with a really unique event to raise awareness of breast cancer and to raise money for the
PBCC. Her vision was to string bras across Veterans Memorial Bridge connecting Selinsgrove and Sunbury, promoting breast cancer awareness month
while collecting new and gently-used bras to donate to local women's shelters. Local businesses pledged to donate a dollar or 50 cents for each
bra collected.
Over $10,000 was raised for the PBCC and 1,500 bras were collected. Dawn Marie said, "After this event, if one woman says
she scheduled her mammogram, the event was a success!" The PBCC thanks Big Country, Dawn Marie, and the community for their extraordinary
creativity and support.
