It is Recruitment Time!

Recruitment for the new semester is underway.  With the help of a campus coordinator, five creative high school facilitators wrote, directed, filmed and starred in their very own clubGEN recruitment video.  The video encourages girls to attend clubGEN by showing that club is a fun and safe environment for middle school girls to share their concerns with high school mentors. As one facilitators says: "clubGEN changes your life! It makes you love being a girl, because you should love being a girl!"

Click here http://genaustin.org/public/content/whatwedo/clubgen.asp to watch the video and to sign up a girl you know who might be interested in joining clubGEN!

Volunteer Spotlight- Sharon Ingraham

Sharon Ingraham is the 8th grade counselor at Murchison Middle School.  She has been volunteering her services as a clubGEN sponsor and school contact for four years and has become one of our strongest supporters.  Sharon is always eager to help GENaustin and consistently goes above and beyond.  She is extremely instrumental in recruiting girls to participate in clubGEN at Murchison, advocates for clubGEN to Murchison faculty, staff, and parents, and she provides assistance to the facilitators and volunteers on a weekly basis.  Sharon is an absolute pleasure to work with and clubGEN is very lucky to have her!  Thank you Sharon!

clubGEN Girls Learn How to be Team Players

Every week high school facilitators gather with their campus coordinators to plan for the upcoming week.  During one such planning meeting, Laurie, a campus coordinator, reported that her group of facilitators remarked at the progress they had made as a team, recognizing all of their individual differences and how each one contributes something vital to the team.  Additionally, the girls were excited by the idea that the middle school girls were seeing that and learning how to be team players themselves.

High School Facilitators Participate in Financial Literacy Training

As a part of our second semester training kick-off, clubGEN high school faciliators will attend a workshop to enhance their financial literacy on Saturday, January 12th. They will be learning about basic budgeting, opening a bank account, and how to avoid excessive credit card debt. The girls will also be learning about financial aid opportunities for college. The training will prepare our faciliators for living on their own, which many are preparing to do after they graduate this spring. The financial literacy training will be presented by Steve Stokes, Financial Literacy Coordinator of the Catholic Charities of Central Texas.
