Every 15 minutes someone in the United States is diagnosed with a medical condition that requires treatment with a blood stem cell or bone marrow transplant. November is National Marrow Awareness Month, and Dana-Farber is encouraging people to help save lives by registering to be a potential donor.

Robert Amelio, MSW, MS, director of workplace learning and performance at Harvard Medical School, joined Dana-Farber on Nov. 6 as its first vice president for diversity. Dana-Farber is the only hospital in the Boston area that has created such a position, according to Dana-Farber Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Janet Porter.

PMC cyclists raise $26 million for the Jimmy Fund
The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge, the most successful athletic fundraising event in the nation, contributed $26 million to cancer research and treatment at Dana- Farber last week. The gift brings the PMC's 27-year total contribution to more than $171 million. This record-setting sum is the largest gift ever made to the Jimmy Fund.
