Harry Potter information
OK, it’s official: the final Harry Potter book has shipped and is on the way to us! If you haven’t reserved your copy yet, please come by and do so before they are all gone. We are offering special discounts and VIP admission to our release party for prepaid orders.

The party will be above our store at the OddFellows Hall from 9:30pm to about 11:30pm. The book will be released at midnight! Stop by our store this week to preview some of the special graphics we have created for the party.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: we also just got confirmation that the AAA Theater will perform special skits and provide appropriate “characters” to help really capture the enchanted world of Hogwarts as we celebrate the magic of the last six books and say our fond farewells to this incredible journey. They are a group of teenagers who have been performing “home-based” theater for about 6 years and are excited about the opportunity to share their passion for acting and Harry Potter with us all.

Oregon's Dry Side: Exploring East of the Cascade Crest

Alan D. St John

$29.95 Timber Press 0881928291

This is a lively, in-depth guide to mountains and fossils, vanilla-scented ponderosa pines, painted desert colors, wild creatures and wildflowers, remote outposts, and little-known favorite places, shown in the author's gorgeous photos.

Alan D. St. John is a native Oregonian, naturalist, photographer, and author of Reptiles of the Northwest. His work has appeared in National Geographic, Natural History, Outdoor Photographer, and The New York Times.

Riding Lessons

Sara Gruen

Riding Lessons was the first novel by Sara Gruen, author of the hugely successful Water for Elephants. Reminiscent of The Horse Whisperer, it tells the story of equestrian dreams, loss, and healing.

At eighteen, Annemarie Zimmer was injured and lost her beloved horse in a jumping accident. Now, twenty years later, she returns to the family farm where, through a relationship with a seemingly worthless horse, she begins come to terms with her family and ghosts of her past.

Gruen continued the story in the sequel, Flying Changes.

God is Dead

Ron Currie Jr

$21.95 Penguin 0670038679

God descends to Earth and takes the form of Dinka woman in Sudan. When she is gunned down in a Darfur refugee camp, news of God’s death spreads quickly around the globe. In Ron Currie's provocative and emotionally resonant novel, we’re presented with series of short story-like chapters through which we meet God and then see what happens in a post-God world.

Currie shows a satirical gift worthy of Jonathan Swift, the raw appeal of Chuck Palahniuk's black comedy, and the ethical conscience of Kurt Vonnegut, all with a light touch that creates an exhilarating reading experience.

The Poe Shadow

Matthew Pearl

$13.95 paper Random House 0812970128

Like his phenomenal debut novel, The Dante Club, Matthew Pearl has crossed literary history with innovative mystery to create an ingenious tale of suspense.

When Edgar Allan Poe died in 1849, he was widely regarded as a second-rate writer and drunkard. This leads Quentin Clark, a Poe admirer, to begin a personal crusade to salvage Poe’s reputation. He learns that the writer’s last days are filled with unanswered questions, and he becomes enmeshed in sinister plots of lost secrets.

The Icebound Land (Ranger's Apprentice #3)

John Flanagan

16.99 Penguin 0399244565

The Icebound Land is the third of the smash hit Ranger’s Apprentice series and another heart-stopping adventure set in the medieval, alternate world kingdom of Araluen. Heeeer'es Rob
My name is Robert, and I am a consultant and
promotions person for Grass Roots music. I'm married,
and we have two incredible daughters, and there is a
lot of music in our family. I can't carry a
tune in a basket (my wife sure can), but we sing all
day long. The girls love Bob Marley and Miles Davis,
pianos and breakbeats, marimbas and synthesizers. And
drums, drums, drums. For them everything is music,
because everything has a pulse. Everything comes from
the heartbeat.

Which is why music is so valuable to me. I love
books, and I love words, and I love language. But where
books and words and language fail, where they stumble and
fizzle and fall short of their ambition, music soars.
It burns, and it jumps the gap between intention and
creation.

So, that's it really. I'm here to help you find music
you love, too.

Na Afriki
Dobet Gnahore $16.95

A lush, sometimes heartbreaking album from an Ivory

amazing, and the musical accompinament is sharp and
crisp, and skirts pop without dulling its edge. This
is her highly acclaimed second album.

Rolls-Royce of world music labels offers just about
the best of the genre from the last 10 years. Even if
you're familiar with Buena Vista Social club and

want to hear the company they keep here.

Global Chill:Eden

texture that has things to say and muscles to flex.
Includes the genius DJ Cheb i Sabbah and electronica
legends Banco de Gaia.

Latin Jazz
Putumayo Presents $15.95

Latin Jazz, the fusion of Afro-Cuban rhythms with the
melodic improvisation of bebop, is one of the best
things to happen to music. the ever-reliable Putumayo
has collected a perfect introduction to the style, and
as always it's a good starting point for further
exploration. Goes well with the Summer sun.

Gente Ainda Não Sonhou
Carlinhos Brown $16.95

Percussion master and Rio Carnival leader throws off
all expectations with this eclectic, futuristic and
VERY sexy take on Brazilian vocal music. No wonder
he's been called Brazil's answer to Prince. Highly
recommended for the adventurous pop and R&B fan.
