Goals = Desires =
Highways?
Wow, the end of the year already! That was a fast year
wasn’t it? How are you doing with yourself? What I’m asking is, although this is the season to
give we also get to receive. I hope you’re good at bothJ Have you given yourself a pat on the back
lately? Did you say “thank you” or did you brush it off with an “I could have done better”
thought. No matter where you are as a consultant, brand new, seasoned, getting back into gear, or barely hanging on, I want you to
reach around and pat yourself on the back—right now!! And then receive it with a “good job!”
smile. Start celebrating your accomplishments no matter how small you think they are. And receive it--pause,
take a breath and acknowledge that success. Doing this helps you move on to bigger and better goals. Uh oh,
there’s that word “goals” and now we get to start thinking about them for 2008.
Goals don’t have to be big and scary or have a myth
attached. I used to believe the myth. The myth that if I didn’t achieve a goal that I was a
failure. So I was afraid to set goals. How would I get there?
A goal is merely a point that you desire to travel to.
And today there’s Mapquest. Do you choose the shortest or the fastest way? Toll roads and
highways or the scenic route? No matter what the destination (goal), there’s bound to be delays with either heavy traffic
or construction. Maybe even detours, which can change your entire plan and even create a new destination. But
at least you’re on your way and moving forward. How do you like the analogy? But really, just keep it
simple. As you move forward one day at a time, you’ll find more inner courage to continue and develop even bigger goals and
more exciting destinations.
Goals keep us growing. If you choose to share them with
others, share them with those that will be supportive and encouraging. Be careful not to let anyone steal your dreams.
Give yourself the gift of setting goals to make your dreams come true. Then celebrate your successes—the little ones
and the big ones, because each and every one is importantJ
Happy Holidays!
