Retire Your Old Refrigerator
Puget Sound Energy (PSE) is currently offering a $30 rebate with free pick-up and
recycling for old refrigerators and/or freezers.
It doesn't make financial sense to keep an old fridge or freezer in your garage or
basement - not when it uses up to four times the energy of newer models. And throwing it away isn't a good long-term plan for the
environment.
The refrigerant used in old refrigerators and freezers
contains chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which are 5,000 - 14,000 more potent a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide
(CO2). Without proper decommissioning, the refrigerant gas in these old units often escapes
into the atmosphere.
PSE's offer is available on a first-come first-served basis until funds are exhausted. A qualified unit of any age must
be currently owned by you and be in working condition. Click here for more
information or call PSE at 1.888.225.5773.
