Rehberg Junkets
in South America and Paris on Taxpayers’ Dime While Montana Burns
While fires rage across Montana this
month, Rep. Dennis Rehberg has abandoned the state in order to junket at taxpayers’ expense in Brazil, Argentina and Chile this week -- after
spending all of last week in Paris, France.
Today's Washington Post reports that:
The trip has caused something of a headache for Rep. Denny Rehberg (R-Mont.) -- and not
just from the wine. (Rehberg, some readers may recall, took a taxpayer-funded congressional delegation trip several years ago to Kazakhstan, where, after drinking several shots of vodka, he fell off a horse,
got trampled by another, broke his ribs and allegedly called the locals "coneheads.")
(This is the stunt that has led to Rehberg being occasionally referred to as America's Borat.)
The Washington Post continues:
The state party's executive director, Jim
Farrell, said, "We're fighting fires out here; he's been gone for two weeks." Separately, in a news release, he said, "Instead of being
here for the men and women fighting the Chippy Creek fire, I suppose Rehberg is cavorting on the beaches of Ipanema, or perusing the artists' stalls
along the Seine."

Democratic Leaders Tour State to Help Montanans Get
their $400 Proterty Tax Refuns: Explain How to Receive the Refund Check
Democratic authors of Montana’s $400 homeowner property tax
refund are encouraging Montanans to take advantage of the refund and explained how to receive it.
“We’re encouraging all Montana homeowners to be sure to
take advantage of this refund,” said Rep. Furey (D-Missoula). “We worked very hard for Montana families and homeowners and we want
every one of them to benefit.”
Deputy Minority Leader Bob Bergren (D-Havre) said the refund will
go to Montanans who will spend it on Main Street to help our economy grow. According to the Montana Department of Revenue, more 26,000 homeowners in
Missoula County will be eligible for the refund.
“We cut more taxes for more Montanans in 2007 than at any
time in history, and we did it the right way,” said Rep. Furey, “Now, we want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to learn about
the refund and how easy it is to receive it.” For more information: http://www.montanademocrats.org/
