For over eleven years, I've looked
at three postcards of beautiful beaches taped here on my office wall.
Two weeks ago, Steve and I actually bought a house
in the Dominican Republic 300 steps from the gorgeous beach pictured at left.
Coincidence? I think
not!
I truly believe the first step in getting what you
want, is to be able to visualize it.
In fact, I think if I'd had postcards of snow-covered mountains on my
wall, we'd probably be buying a cabin in Colorado!
The more I think about how we saw and bought our “dream
house” within 72 hours; I realize I followed three important steps YOU can also follow to realize
YOUR dreams:
Notice, we're talking about DREAMS and not GOALS here. What's the difference?
As I say in my goal-setting
programs, "Goals are dreams in writing." And, "Goals are dreams with a deadline." Dreams make us hungry enough to create the action steps of goal-setting to make them come true.
Dreams are the end of the
sentence, "I want...." What do you want?
Goals are the end of the sentence, "I will...." What
will you do to get it?
Many people in my seminar audiences have a hard time writing
down their dreams.
They're too focused on why they CAN'T do, be or have the things they want.
As adults we let time, money, education and background
act as limitations on our thinking. But, have you noticed how children never set limitations on themselves?
Kids really believe they can have, be or DO anything they want.
So, for a few minutes, think like a kid again,
dream big and create your paradise!
Step 1:
Visualize frequently and vividly what you want
Brian Tracy says, “People who accomplish extraordinary things visualize their desired
results continually.”
To help you visualize, prominently post
pictures of what YOU want where you’ll see them throughout the day.
What does your dream (house, car, job, romantic
partner) look like? Keep it in your mind’s eye because if you can’t see it, you won’t get it!
The best
dream is something you can't get out of your mind. It's an obsession!
Step 2:
Believe you can achieve it
This is such a powerful yet simple
step. You must absolutely believe -without a doubt- it is possible to achieve your dream. You must believe you
deserve this dream.
This means, too, your dream is
believable because it's realistic.
After checking real estate prices, I quickly realized it wasn't realistic for
us to think we could ever live ON the beach. So I
began dreaming of living NEAR the beach.
Is your dream believable AND
realistic?
Step 3:
Don’t wait for the perfect conditions to act on your dream
Gen. George S. Patton said it best, “A good plan
today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow.” In other words, there is no perfect
plan!
In order to afford the beach house, we need to sell
a small rental house we own in Louisville. A more
cautious person may think, “We’d better wait until we sell the other house.” But property values in the beach town are due to sky rocket once a major highway
to the peninsula is completed this year, so we couldn't afford to wait.
Because I live in The Positive Zone® , and my motto is "Carpe
diem," I expect great things to happen every day. So we "seized the day," bought the beach house and have six
months to sell our rental house. (I believe we'll sell it in four!)
These three steps will help you DREAM. Next month I'll give you three more steps to turn your dream into an "I WILL"
action plan.

Until next
month……Remember: dream big and and stay in The Zone!
