Look who's turning 60, Restaurant Week, cure for the frizzy's and
more...
The Three Tomatoes could hardly let this day go by without acknowledging
the sixtieth anniversary of... the bikini. Yes, on July 5, 1946 a French model paraded onto a runway in a poolside fashion show in
Paris wearing what was promoted as "the world's smallest bathing suit." Of course by today's "bikini" standards", basically two
tiny pieces of string, the 1946 "scandalous" bikini would almost be a full body suit. And while we're talking bikinis (and
believe us, that's all we can do is talk about them) we think there should be a rule of thumb about age and waist size. If
your age and waist size are 25, go for it. For the rest of us, the only strings associated with our bodies should be dental
floss. Oh, and President Bush and the bikini are now the same age. Who knew he'd have something to like
about the French?
Restaurant Week
If you're not sitting pool side or beach side, or boat side somewhere exotic next
week and find yourself in the City (like, because of those pesky paying jobs perhaps) then don't forget Summer
Restaurant week July 10-14. You can enjoy three-course lunches for $24.07 and three-course dinners for $35, not including tax and
gratuity, at more than 100 of the city's best restaurants. Click here for the list of participating
restaurants.
And while you're in a dining out, or ordering in mood, which is basically
every night in New York City, then you'll want to check out this new web site DiningFever.com. It's a listing of all kinds of restaurant deals like a percentage off the check,
discounts, 2 for 1 deals, Prix Fixe Menus, all you can eat offers, fast food and take out joints. Check it out.
Cure for the summer Frizzy's
We just discovered CosmeticsCop.com, a web site that reviews cosmetics, provides makeup tips and more from Paula Begoun, a cosmetic expert who has
appeared on CNN, Oprah, The Today Show, 20/20, Dateline NBC, The View, and Primetime. While
she has her own line of cosmetics (which admittedly we know nothing about) what we like about her site are her reviews of products from well known
cosmetic firms -- the good and the bad. For example, this week she gave a great review for Neutrogena's Triple Moisture Smooth Shine Anti-Frizz
Cream and panned Maybelline's New York Lash Stylist Mascara. She also has a dictionary of cosmetics ingredients on her web
site, so if you actually read the ingredients in any of your cosmetic products and want to know what things like, alkanna tinctoria extract actually
are, you can find out here. You can also sign up for her bi-weekly newsletter.
What is in those cosmetics?
And by the way, maybe knowing more about what's really in your cosmetics is a
good idea. Check out this
recent Fox News report on an FDA investigation into pesticides, formaldehyde and other toxins found in some makeup.
Yikes. It's almost enough to go au
naturale. The face that is.
Hope you're enjoying summer.
‘til next week,
