Dear Classmates,
Your enthusiasm for Old School has been overwhelming! We have 80 participants, chosen from over 150 inquiries. So many participants, in fact, that we
have asked our neighbour (One Blue Wall Gallery) to join in on the project so that we can accommodate all your potential work.
I am excited by all your talent - I've admired many of your websites and blogs and am thrilled to work with you. I am also very happy to be
introduced to some new favourites. I will be posting links to everyone's sites in the weeks to come so that you can see who's involved.
The envelopes of paper goodies will be sent out in early May. It is not necessary that you use all (or any) of the items - they are meant as
inspiration. I do hope that some of these things will find their way into your work whether as background textures, a surface to print upon, as props
in a photographic composition... it's up to you.
We are definitely proceeding with the book aspect of the project. I am currently investigating the best option for printing it, whether that is
print-on-demand or another method. I would need to receive electronic art for the book by July 1st. Please see the sidebar for details about
size.
You are welcome to submit multiple pieces for consideration in the book. Please note that not everything is
guaranteed to be included. Once I see your electronic submissions, we will let you know which pieces to ship to us for the physical display in the
gallery.
I encourage you to document your process of creating your Old School pieces. Email pictures or sketches or
other studio images to me and I will post them to the UPPERCASE website leading up to the exhibition. Maybe some of this will become content for the
book as well.
Another nice addition to the book would be images from your own school experience: a scan of your class photo,
an old report card, a diploma, letter sweater or uniform... any momento from your old school experience!
