Reminder! Local Inventors Club Meeting - May 24, 2006
The
Northeastern
Pennsylvania Alliance (NEPA) will host its monthly Inventors Club
meeting on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at 5:30pm at NEPA Alliance, Pittston.
Bruce
Gutterman, local inventor and owner of Flavors ‘R' Specialty, will talk
about his success as an inventor. Mr.Gutterman, better known as the
"Prince of Peanut Butter", introduced "Chubby Hubby" in March of 1995
as the chocolate-covered peanut butter-filled pretzel nugget in vanilla
malt
ice cream with a fudge and peanut butter ripple. Sharing
the spotlight with Bruce, Mr.
Paul Lantz, President & CEO of the A. Rifkin Company, will speak
about his company's new ABS3D rapid prototyping division that can
service product

PennDOT Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Planning and Design Training -
June 6, 2006
PennDOT,
in partnership with the Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance &
Lackawanna-Luzerne Metropolitan Planning Organization
(MPO), are offering two Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Planning
and Design Trainings in Northeastern
Pennsylvania. A June 6,
2006 training will be held at NEPA's offices in
Pittston and a June 8, 2006 training will be held at the
Monroe County Public
Safety Center in Snydersville. URS Corporation and Michael Baker Jr. Corporation are conducting the training sessions. Each training will run from 9:00am to 12:30pm. If

NEPA's
Data Workshop is a Great Success!
The
Northeastern Pennsylvania
Alliance (NEPA), PA State Data Center and Penn State Worthington
Scranton held a Data Workshop on Thursday, May 11, 2006 at the Penn
State
Worthington Campus, Dunmore, PA. The workshop ran
from 9:00am to 4:00pm. The instructor
for the Workshop
was Dennis Pickeral from the Pennsylvania State Data Center. Dennis
joined the Pennsylvania State Data Center (PaSDC) in January 2005,
splitting
time between the PaSDC and the Pennsylvania Recycling Markets Center.
He began working full-time in the State Capital Office of the Data
Center in
August 2005. In his current capacity, Dennis provides data services to
Pennsylvania's Congressional Delegation, state legislators, executive
agencies
and the media.

Microloans Available For Start-up and Expanding Small Businesses
NEPA has three microloan programs designed to help entrepreneurs,
start-up and expanding small businesses and nonprofit organizations
with affordable financing that may not be available
through traditional financing sources. Although each program has
varying requirements, NEPA has streamlined the review process with an
objective of making microloan financing affordable andaccessible.
Eligible small businesses and entrepreneurs can borrow between $5,000
and $25,000at an interest rate of 8.75%, which is fixed throughout the
loan term. Loan proceeds can be used for machinery and/or equipment
purchases, working capital needs and facility renovations.However,
microloan funds can not be used to pay off or refinance existing debt.
Microloans haverepayment terms ranging from three to five years

Donna
Brdaric is the Administrative Assistant to the Enterprise Development
staff since 1998 and provides assistance to 8 staff members in the
Enterprise Development Division. Donna is responsible for projects
relating to the Business Financing Center, Business Development
Program,
Procurement Technical Assistance Program, International Trade Program
and PA SourceNet. In recognition of Donna's dedication and hard work,
Donna was

According
to the
Pennsylvania State Data Center, information obtained through the U.S.
Census Bureau's 2005 Annual Survey of State Government Tax Collections
showed
that tax collections in Pennsylvania totaled $27.3 billion in 2005, an
increase of $1.9 billion or 7.6 percent over 2004. Since 2000, tax
revenue in
Pennsylvania has risen $4.8 billion, or 21.3 percent. Pennsylvanians
paid an average of $2,193.32 to the state in 2005, slightly above the
national
average ($2,192.27) and a per capita increase of $148.23 from the
previous year. The commonwealth ranks 17th nationally in per capita tax
revenue
growth since 2000 (+$363.92 per resident), but just 30th in per capita
increase last year. Total tax revenue for all states grew 9.7 percent
between
2004 and 2005, and since 2000, revenue has grown by 20.2 percent. To

Stroudsburg University is accepting bid leads to renovate a game room
into a computer lounge. The renovation will require demolition of
existing soffits (troffers), ceilings, piping, ductwork, and electric,
luminaries, wiring and receptacles. This project includes interior
painting, new doors, finishes and drywall. It also includes a new air
handling unit, ductwork, hot water and chilled water piping, HVAC
control systems, plus testing and balancing. In addition, it includes
