Alumni West Coast
Gatherings – What we did, who was there…
by Milja Brecher-DeMuro
In March of 2007
there was a flurry of COA alumni activity on the west coast. Three alumni gatherings took place; one in Portland, Oregon another
in San Francisco, California and the last in Santa Monica California. All events were fun and festive and truly connected
practical neighbors that didn’t even know there was another person that had even heard of COA for at least 500 miles.
The Portland, Oregon
event took place on Saturday, March 10th at McMenamin’s Kennedy School in the evening. Over thirty people
comprised primary of alumni and a few family members. There was ample supply of pasta, salad, beer, dessert for everyone and after
opening remarks by alumnae Rebekah (Resnick) Padget, class of 1991, the room came alive with introductions, memories, and career
networking.
Invitations for this event
were sent to all alumni in Washington state and Oregon via email, snail mail and phone. If you did not hear about this event,
perhaps we do not have your most current contact information. Please update us so that you can participate in the next
gathering. Laurie Harris, class of 1999 and Michael Whitehead, class of
1991 are in the process of making plans for this next Washington/Oregon
bash.

On Friday, March
16th 2007 an alumni gathering was held at the Purple House, the home of Chrystal Schreck, class of 2003, in San Francisco,
California. You wouldn’t believe the back yard on this in-city vegetarian co-op house! A tire swing, a
garden and chickens overlooking the cityscape will surely give you the perfect mental picture. The evening was perfect and the
food was incredible. Our caterer, Katie Weber from Katie’s Catering, was out of this world. If you ever
need a caterer in the bay area, I highly recommend her (katiewendtcatering@comcast.net),
the food was amazing and the price was perfect. Again, at this event, the chatter was lively and the networking
fantastic. There’s certainly a lot you can get accomplished with a room filled with reporters, environmental lawyers,
scientists, mothers, fathers, artists and entrepreneurs.

On March 18th,
2007 a alumni gathering was held at the home of Sally Crock and Stephen Mooser in Santa Monica, California. Although small, this
event was a wonderful opportunity for alumni who rarely get the opportunity to return to Maine to gather and connect. Food and
beverage was prepared by Milja Brecher-DeMuro and Chelsea Mooser and although rainless LA, threatened sprinkles, we all remained happy and
dry.
