The summer has kicked off in Punta de Mita and with the tourist crowds absent the Punta de Mita
Foundation has been busy getting some of our projects
underway. The Smart Growth Committee has been in communication with the Centro Universitario de la Costa (Universidad de Guadalajara at Puerto
Vallarta) to employee summer interns that will assist in our research and study for the upcoming Smart Growth Report. This report will discuss
many of the important issues in the Punta de Mita communities along with giving insight as to possible solutions. We are optimistic that a
baseline report will bring light upon the real problems at hand and be a transparent venue for communication about these issues.

Our Education Committee has received the construction bids for the new classrooms that will be built
for the Kindergarten in Emiliano Zapata. The first summer storms have already arrived so starting construction on these classrooms is an urgent
need. The children deserve to have an adequate learning environment throughout the year. We currently have $20,000 dollars committed to
the project and are in need of at least another $40,000 dollars to complete the classrooms. We are doing continuing needs-based assessments for the
schools. These two classrooms are for only one of the five schools in Punta de Mita . We will be sending out a separate communication
regarding our assessment. Please help make a difference in the education of our communities' children. Prior to our gala fund raising
event over Thanksgiving weekend in November, we will have a volunteer week to put the finishing touches on the new classrooms for the school. This
will include painting, gardening, donating books and study materials, as well as interacting with the local community that is also taking part in the
construction and fundraising. Please contact us if you will be in the area and would like to volunteer for this event.

On an environmental note, Punta de Mita Foundation has been active in supporting the highway clean
up crew along 200 from La Cruz de Huanacaxtle to Punta de Mita. They are doing an excellent job and the results are highly visible! I would
like
to thank Diana Ontiveros Salgado for her tireless efforts and Bill Sullivan for his enthusiastic participation. We are also confronting this problem
by meeting with public bus service managers to discuss littering and what they need to keep the streets and highways free of trash.

Last but not least, sea turtle nesting season has arrived! The Punta de
Mita Foundation would like to help support these important species in
our
flora and fauna by asking those of you who live on the beach to keep
your lights from shining out onto the ocean at night. The light
disorients the
turtles when they are swimming towards land to look for nesting spots.
In addition, please read the following attached link about sea turtles
presented by Patricia Riebeling, an onsite biologist for Los Veneros. Also see the attached note about the
conservation
organization that is doing work in Litibu and needs volunteers. If
you're interested in participating please contact them at:
