Bottled Water:  at what cost?

THOSE eight daily glasses of water you’re supposed to drink for good health? They will cost you about 50 cents a year — if you take it from a tap.  Or, you could spend roughly $1,400 yearly, by drinking bottled water!

The annual carbon footprint of bottled water consumption in the U.S. is over 50 million barrels of oil equivalent—enough to run 3 million cars for one year.

Did you know?

  • It takes 3 liters of water to produce 1 liter of bottled water
  • 80% of the plastic water bottles sold each year end up in landfills
  • The water is not necessarily better than tap water.  A recent study found that about 1/3 of the bottled water tested was contaminated.

Recycle your water bottles and, better yet, choose to re-use a refillable water bottle made of a refill-safe material.  Click here to find out more.
