HERE THEY ARE TO SAVE THE
DAY:
Alpha Series
Megan Thorne
Meet Greek Life’s newest Superheroes: members of the Alpha Series, a semester long program designed for newly
initiated fraternity and sorority members. Alpha Series is a brand new program aiming to teach leadership skills, discuss important issues in the
Greek community, and allow members from each fraternity and sorority to tackle some of those challenges together. Participants in this program are
what Greek Life Director Gentry McCreary calls “cream of the crop.” Participating members represent Chi Omega, Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha
Chi Omega, Zeta Tau Alpha, Sigma Chi, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Pi, and Alpha Gamma Rho. After the completion of the series, it is
the goal for the members to have a better understanding of values congruence and its impact on the future of Greek organizations. After all, these
participants are future leaders of the Greek community.
At their first meeting, Alpha Series members discussed
issues such as stereotypes, time management, the education of non-Greeks, what sororities and fraternities do and do not offer, and expansion. At the
end of the semester, Alpha Series members will not only have created and completed a service project for the entire Greek community, but will have
worked together to plan and implement a program for next year’s new members called Greek Camp. For the rest of the semester, these eager and
new sorority and fraternity members will be targeting issues together and saving the Greek community, one problem at a time. |

Greek Of The Week:
Chris Smith
Amanda Huskey
This week’s Greek of the Week is ATΩ member
Chris Smith who excels among his many leadership roles on campus. He is extremely involved not only in the Greek system, but also around the MTSU
community. His involvement includes SOA, SASAP, NSCS, Golden Key Honors Society, Collegiate Who’s Who, IFC, Greek Life Task Force, and
B.O.L.T.
Chris has had many successes throughout his college
experience, but among every position he has held, he considers being president of ATΩ his biggest achievement.
“When I came to college, I knew I wanted to join a
fraternity,” says Chris. “When I joined my fraternity, I knew immediately I wanted to be President, there is nothing like it.
It’s the best, worst, happiest, most time-consuming, gratifying, non-stop job I’ve ever had.”
Chris believes his personality makes him stand out among
the rest and reaches out to a great number of people and has not gone unnoticed. He has won several awards including: Outstanding Junior Achievement
Award at the 2006 Greek Awards, The Otis Allan Glazebrook Award from ATΩ, Kappa Delta Dagger man, and was nominated for Greek Man of the Year
for 2006.
Chris is majoring in Mathematical Sciences and will be graduating this year.
He hopes to later go on to graduate school and work in Student Affairs.

Make Your
Mark
Kaila Packett
On February 5th and 6th
students were encouraged to come and "Make Your Mark" on the KUC Knoll. This was not just any normal fundraiser, but it was Alpha Chi Omega's
way of celebrating their history with the campus, while raising money to save local High School music programs in the Murfreesboro area. Alpha
Chi celebrates McDowell month during the month of February in remembrance and appreciation of the arts, since the sorority was founded on the musical
arts in 1895. During "Make Your Mark," Alpha Chi encouraged students to come and make their mark by painting on sheets and giving donations to
help save the music! The two day event turned out to be a huge success with Alpha Chi Omega raising $335 to give to local High School music
programs and covering five huge sheets of MTSU students making their mark! |
