Thanks for subscribing to the Houston Family Fun newsletter. Get ready for a great November
2007 issue.
Let's face it. Parents worry. We stress about our children, bills, commitments and more. I
certainly do and our family is fairly simple with only three members. No matter how many children you have, there are many moving parts. Experts
suggest prioritizing and simplifying family activities and tasks. While there's merit in examining which commitments warrent the most attention, I
especially appreciate Jon
Gordon's advice in his CD "The Energy Addict":
"Right now, think about what you are thankful
for. As you practice gratitude, know that you are activating the part of your brain associated with positive emotions and deactivating the part
associated with stress and fear. When you are thankful, you can't be fearful. When you are thankful, you can't be stressed. It's the way our
brains are wired."
Amazing. What are you thankful for? Instead of waiting until Thanksgiving Day (November
22), think of all the things you have to be thankful for. Consider your children, your spouse, the change of the seasons, your job (even if it drives
you crazy). Don't stress. You have plenty to be thankful for.
This month, I encourage you to take 2 minutes each day to focus on things
you are thankful for. After one month, I hope to hear from you about the positive impacts.
Wishing you many thankful days,
Megan F. Salch

Looking for a special gift for a parent, grandparent or new Houstonian?
The book 100+ Activities for Houston Kids is a fantastic guide to events throughout our city. It's a great gift, too!
Bright Idea!
Subscribe to product recall notices from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety
Commission. The cool thing: you can specify the type of recalls you're interested in so you don't
overload your email box.
Thanks to Denise for notifying me about
this useful tool.
